seems like there is a rev limiter at 6000 rpm in 3rd

could this be because im running to rich? it just doesnt seem to have the power at the 6000 range in 1st 2nd and in 3rd it seems like it hits a rev limiter, it just sits there and bounces off 6000. it pisses me off cuz i can not get an acurate 1/4 mile time, and i can not race anyone. if there are any other opinions on why this would happen just let me know

thanks

How old is your fuel filter? If it's more than a couple months, change it!

Sounds like a fuel starvation problem... a clogged fuel filter can flow enough for normal driving but not enough for full throttle. So you start your run with full carb bowls, and the bowls have enough fuel in them for 1st and 2nd gear, but they're drained in 3rd.

First time happened to me, I lost a race because of it. Shifted into 3rd gear and the engine just stuttered at me until I let off for a bit (allowing the bowls to fill back up) then i could floor it again.

I didn't know what it was, and a week later it was so bad the car would not exceed 75mph.

$2 fuel filter later, car's fine again.

Yeah sounds exactly like a fuel problem, it could be too rich too lean, a lot of things. Cheapest way to try something is a filter, and its not like its gonna hurt anything..

This may be a long shot, but when my car was doing the exact same thing, it turned out to be related to some sort of clutch switch. When it happens again, try depressing the clutch very slightly, not quite enough to engage it though. It sounds wierd, but it used to work for me. I never got around to finding the exact problem because my engine died, but I hope this can lead you in the right direction.

Its almost certainly the fuel filter, mine did the same thing, and that fixed it.
