Secondaries, to move or not to move...
Well, I tied a twist tie to the secondary linkage thing (I have a low carb part vocab ) and attached that to part of the (?) diaphragm's (?) outside...
So, I drove around--pushing the car to about 6000 RPM, making sure the secondaires would open up. When I checked the twist tie, it didn't move or bend at all... Seems like the secondary didn't open. I was sure to tie the twist tie to the linkage and then pull it taut to tie to something else.
More Inspection (maybe the problem?):
Upon pushing the secondary linkage thing, I couldn't open the secondaries very far open--something stops it from opening up further... Is it normal that the secondaries do not open much? Or is there some vacuum device preventing that from happening when the car is off?
*Knows little to none about carbs...*

You don't want the twist tie "taut", you want it loose, just loop it over. You just want to see if the secondaries are opening, not restrict them from opening.
When you are trying to open the secondary linkage by hand, you must make sure that you are holding open the primary linkage. IF the primary throttle linkage is not open, it will not allow the secondary linkage to move.
The linkage will move by hand, the vacuum of the car running under load is what opens the secondaries when the car is moving.

I did have the tie taut, but i did not restrict it... what i did was loop it, just tight enuf to where it kept the tie taut--i'm pretty sure i did not prevent it from opening...
Is there anything i can check to see if my secondaires will open (vacuums, etc)?

just so we're all on the same page... the vacuum that opens the secondaries does not come from manifold vacuum, it come from the venturi effect in the primary barrels. the more air is flowing through the primaries, the faster it goes, the less pressure it has, the more the secondaries will open.

ok 'cos some people think that manifold vacuum opens them, which would be backwards because vacuum is highest under no load and lowest at max load, the opposite of what you'd want to operate secondaries.
