se power steering question(or lack thereof)

I recently purchased an 85 SE, the previous owner pulled the pump and I have a funny feeling he left the 'power' gearbox. Would it be beneficial enough to swap to a non p/s gearbox or is it about the same stiffness and ratio as the stock SE?? Trying to build the car more towards road racing but would like to be able to auto-x. I have some other steering parts to address like the idler arm has play and the tie rods look factory. Thanks guys

the PS box has a 15:1 ratio, its faster than the non PS box. if memory serves the non ps box is more like 17-20:1, its variable.

which is better is totally up to your taste as a driver
