Sawing a Seven into pieces

Anyone have some pointers/stories on sawing a Seven with a recip saw inorder to haul it for scrap? I have what is left of one and need to saw it down and throw it in a truck or trailer to transport it to the scrap yard.

Bad idea... I parted a 88 t2 then thought i was going to save money buy cutting it up and dumping it...definately not worth the time, I cut a few pieces and got bored really quick. I got a local junk yard to come and pick it up for $50.

its really not that bad we cut an fc apart... cut the roof off, cut the front frame away from the firewall, cut the firewall off sawed the floor straight down the middle, then cut the quarter panels off...some of the pieces were a bit heavy, but nothing 2 people cant handle

Best way I've ever cut cars up is going to a local heavy equipment rental. Borrow a gas powered masonry circular saw and you'll have it cut up in 15min or less depending on how well you can hanldle one. I've cut up many rx's this way works great.

Scrap yards are paying 4.50 per 100 on metal. Pull the gas tank, and many places will pay you for them to come get it.

Guy last week offered My dad and I $40 per car if we would let him take them.

^ That one.

No title was why it was parted, I got it with no title, engine, Front end had been cut off and used to repair a wreaked car.

I generaly only part No Title cars. or ones where the Rust has eat away the rear control arm plates.

Yeah, I would personally hunt anyone down and shoot them if they cut up a straight and rust free 1st gen.

Cut the rockers panels off and quarter panels. You never know when the rust strikes again

And even there, Eric's car has rusted through one of the rear control arm plates, and we're still persisting in getting it "fixed" and continuing on!

I hate to say this, but it was a TII, no title and partially stripped when I got it. But it did have a complete drive train. (Future 1st gen transplant)

I start with the roof, then the front and rear ends to the shock towers, makes it easier to remove the drivetrain. As a side note, remove the fuel tank 1st.

Then cut behind the firewall, in front of the rear shock towers, then slice everything down the middle. I can load every piece by myself, even with a bad back.

Don't go cheap on your sawzall blades, get the good ones, the longer the better.

The second pic shows the body 'reassembled' after surgery. If you look closely you can see most of the cuts.

Make sure you have as hose or fire extinguisher handy when you go through the fuel lines.

I thought you didn't need a title on cars 88' and older just a bill of sale.

Too many body parts missing, the interior was totally trashed and the engine was questionable. I already have a TII that needs rebuilt. For $150 bucks, I couldn't pass it up. It gives me everything I need to do the swap into a 1st gen and I have 7-7's at the moment, with 2 pending sale, both of which need work and the GXL will be resurrected into a TII.

Somedays I can't even read, sorry for mistaking that quote as refering to me.

That's what I get for working in the shop all night and then trying to be fucntional on the forums.

Depends on the State. in GA 86 and older does not need a title. But 81+ needs emissions. I can take the registration from GA to NC and then get a title, costs me about $100 to do this. IN NC all cars have to have a title to register them. No Exceptions. If the title is lost, You need a sig by the last owner to file for a lost title.

This is what I was looking for. Besides a recip saw, I was pondering about using a metal cutter blade on the circular saw.

Everyone can rest easy that this was not a restoreable car. It sustained a hit on the drivers side (the other drivers fault and the only accident I have ever been in) that distorted that whole side of the car. Now that I have stripped her clean, it is time to lay her to rest.

I don't recommend a circular saw. I've used one to cut metal siding, not fun, and that is about the only steel I would cut with a circular saw. They can be quite dangerous when they bind up and come back at you.

I started out using an 18 volt battery powered sawzall, spent more time waiting for the 2 batteries to charge, than I did cutting. Finally bought an electric one, much better.

Ear plugs and safety glasses are highly recommended

A sawzall and Japanese steel is like a hot knife through butter.

While we're not recommending things, a cutting wheel doesn't work very well, either. I end up breaking the wheels before I use them up when cutting shock towers and whatnot off Miata's.

I found someone to help me haul this car off and they also agreed a circular saw would be useless, recips would be all I need.

I found a picture of the fatal blow.
I previously stated drivers side, that would be incorrect.

What a great post. My parts 7 is getting to the point where it needs to be disposed of and I was wondering how to cut it up. I'll get some metal blades for my saws-all and have at it. Anybody need any rear end body parts in the NE Georgia region?

Hey Ray, I could use some rear end metal to work on KC's 79. PM me when you are ready to cut it up.
