SA rejuvinated!

Over the past week I have performed a few upgrades to the SA. First on the list was a new clutch. The old one was hella wore out. I decided to go with an Excedy OEM replacement. Picked it up for $109 shipped. Second I went with a new OEM replacement fuel pump. I had a Holley blue fuel pump on the car from the previous owner who had a Weber 45 DCOE. I deceided to go with a Nikki and Racing Beat carb hat instead and sell the Weber for reliability reasons. Third I installed my electrionic ignition system.

With all of these upgrades performed withing a couple weeks of each other all I have to say is WOW! I could tell a huge difference. It feels like a completely different car than when I got it. All of my hesitations were fixed with the ignition. It starts much faster too. Pulls harder and smoother. My tach doesn't fluctuate and bounce around anymore.

Pictures are soon to come hopefully of my ignition etc. It really is super easy to install. Just a little intimidating the first go around.

All they want is a lil attention and a few shiny things they can flash about to other cars, to make 'em feel special.

Are you also running a fuel pressure regulator with that new pump?

What did you use for the ignition? I've always said there is a butt load of power hidden in the ingition systems of these cars but few believe me.

agreed with kentetsu, now that you have electronic ignition, i believe you should look into 2gcdfis, i don't think they are doing the transistor trick anymore. but 2g coil does wonders itself.

I'm running an OEM pump and no regulator.

I'm running coils and the dizzy out of an 83. The old points had gotten so bad that it was cutting out and making the car buck. It go so bad that I was afraid of getting stranded so I took the electronic parts I had been procrastinating on installing and slapped em in. Starts upo instantly. Revs smoother, harder, faster. Gets better MPG so far. Idles better. Tach works again!

I've thought about doing an FC coil setup. Just need to buy an extra one to play with. I think my FC engine part supply has dried up.

The clutch made a giant difference.

I, too have got to do that electronic ignition swap..haha..my points haven't scored a point for a long while. Is it easy to do the swap? I've got an '85 with a good dizzy and coils in my backyard, and I've got an '83, also with a good dizzy and coils. Is there much modification needed? thanks

Install the 12v coils.

Install the electric dizzy TDC (make sure the rotor and cap are usable, new ones are cheap).

If you have the factory wiring harness for the 83 good, if not visit the Mazspeed.com tutorial. Your basically just running a negative and a positive of each coil to each ignitor, easy. You just have to be sure your running them to their respective locations.

Remove all the little resistors to the right of the coils on the shock tower. The one closest tot the fender needs the wires taped up and hidden into the harness out of the way. The ones with black/white bottom wires and yellow top wires need to have the circuits completed. Don't tape all 4 of these together, just the 2 pair that shared a resistor... So you'll have one black/white spliced with a solid yellow, and one black white spliced with a yellow/black wire.

Last, take the factory 79 harness that had the 2 connectors for the old coils and connect them allong with the new wires you ran to the ignitors. This will feed 12v power to them and relay signal to the tach.

I'm also restoring my 85 Gsl-se fuel injected and it feels great! Hopefully i'll get to do the same dizzy setup as you and hundreds of other users have. ;p

Keep up the good work!

GSL-SE has electronic ignition already. Read up on FC coil swap.

Brilliant. Thanks, man. I'm tired of gapping my old points and having all those random misfires at idle, lol.
