SA noise above 5000 rpm
SA noise above 5000 rpm
I have a 1980 that runs perfect but just started to get a weird noise above 5000 rpm. When the car is in neutral it will rev to 7000 rpm and sound great. When driving it makes a whining noise at 5000 rpm. I can't pin the source down and was wondering if anybody might have some advice?
I think it may be from the transmission or maybe a pulling. The noise sort of has a metal on metal sound, it's hard to describe. Thanks

welcome to the board.
is the car stock? when was your last tune-up?
check the timing. check the fuel mixture. maybe change your fuel filter and see if it goes away.
you can get a copy of the FSM from here: Foxed.ca

Agree with the already mentioned posts about isolating by removing belts. Another thing that can make noise is the vicious coupled cooling fan. Sometimes when they fail and freewheel at higher rpms they can get noisy.
