SA------->FB conversion (tail section)
I was wondering if anyone has ever custom installed FB taillights into the rear of an SA? Looked at it the other day and it seems like an easy conversion. All you would have to do would be extend the hole for the tails towards the center a little, drill some holes for the middle piece, and relocate the rear licence plate to under the rear bumper...
Just a thought for anyone who dislikes the SA22 tail end... If anyone has pictures of a final product like this post them up... Just a little curious.

No please trevor don't! The SA LS's are too rare.
My SA has this conversion. You are basically right, its just a matter of making the hole bigger and drilling some more holes. The only problem is that the "excess" lenght to the center of the car has to be taken care of. Welding in a new steel piece is of course the best option, but a rubber plate will do.
Personally, i like the way the SA looks..
I`ll post some pics when i can get around to finding my stupid cable from the camera to the pc, and explain properly what you have to do.

when i first saw a 1st gen in person, it was the SA i was about to buy. At that point, i thought the sa looked a lot better than the fb. I still do, but the fb is growing on me..
and DoLuck, i was a kid when i first saw it, which was about 1 year ago.

I personally like the FB rear end better, it is 80's looking yes but the SA rear looks like they just kinda threw it together at the last minute, The SA's are like a mullet, they are all kick *** in the front and sloppy and redneck in the back. But I appreciate both styles, I just prefer the FB.... To each his own.
I wouldn't even think of changing the SA's tail's to an FB, because then it defeats the purpose of having an SA. I figure if left stock, everyone can have a better idea of what style was the parent design to the FB. That's my 2 cents though.

I may not touch it but I mean seriously, SA's will never be worth enough to pull $150,000 at an autoauction soooooo, If I feel like cutting it up I will.
It is no different then adding a widebody kit to an SA, if it isn't 100% Original it isn't worth anything.
The car needs a new dash, paint, interior, ect.... It isn't like AI was planning on cutting up a MINT condition SA.... This car will most likely become a SCCA trailer Queen....

You said it yourself though, the FB has the 80's look, which is should for being an 80's car. The SA has the late 70's look, which is apparent from it's life span.
I think it would have more appeal to the SA rear if you took out the nasty black housings for what I'd guess are license plate lights, and replace them with something smaller and I think it would look quite a bit cleaner. Then again, it is your car, you should do what you feel needs to be done.

And why I grabbed a set of SA taillights when I had the opportunity. Grabbing the whole rear panel would have been nicer, but ah well.
(Even nicer would be to grab an ENTIRE CHASSIS...)
I bought my SA brand new in 1980. The next year they changed the tail section. I was bummed because I thought it looked better. Now, I couldn't be happier. My SA is much rarer than the FB's, and now I like the look better. FB's are all over the place, don't **** up an SA trying to make it look like something else. Enjoy the uniqueness of the car. SA's are distinctive, vive la difference.
Oh, and for rbf41182gt, careful when you lump us all in the "everyone" category.
