changing stock waterpump and housing

I have a stock '85 12A. I was just wondering if changing the stock waterpump and waterpump housing from the 12A to a '86-'91 2G waterpump and housing would help to futher cool my 70 c.i. It gets hot in July.

There isn't much difference in the pump and housings as far as output. You need to trouble shoot the cooling system first. A stock system will run cross the desert when in proper working order.

The stock system when in working order works just fine.
However here are some tips for the stock maintenance.
1) Replace the t-stat if have not already with stock temp. Preferably with either high quaility
replacement or factory mazda one.
2) Flush the cooling system
3). Use 50/50 mix of coolant
4). Add bottle of redlines water wetter. This product enhances the coolants ability to transfer heat better at operating temp
5). Always make sure the water pump belt is properly tensioned.
For added cooling you can do the following.
1) Add a auxillary electric cooling fan to you system leaving the stock fan in place
2). Remove the stock fan and install a quaility electric fan like Flexlites black magic that is rated to put out a ton of CFM for cooling.
2a.) This will also reduce the load on the motor freeing up HP and extend the life of the water pump by reducing drag on the bearing of the pump
3). Get rid of the Bee-Hive oil cooler and install a FMOC cooler
4). Get the fan clutch off 84-85 gslse or 81-82 thats designed to pull more air because
they came with the FMOC
