S3 To S4 Afm Mod?

So i have heard of increasing airflow on a GSL-SE by replacing the stock AFM with an S4 out of a 86 or 87. I have read a few threads about the dynamic chamber but none really seemed to touch on this. Is this a "bolt on mod" or is there more to it than meets the eye? It is mentioned in Mike Ancas book RX-7 performance handbook. I wanted to get some feedback from you guys before I went ahead with the mod. Thanks.

it's not a bolt on at all. The S3 AFm works on a different voltage scale then the S4's so the ECU wouldn't know what to do with it. The only way to make it work would be to swap a S4 ecu in

It does not work.
You can install the S4 intake system with the larger t/body but the AFM doesn't want to work.

Maybe with more trial and error I can get it dialed in
to be smoother throught the RPM's but for now
I put the stock AFM back on.

But it does work,. just will need more
testing and tuning. which I really don't have alot of
time to do right now, other things on the car to work on.

Like I said it does not work.
The usage of the MAF from a 89-91 S5 motor in a S4 86-88 application works just fine but the Se is a completley different animal.
If you really wanted to try this you would be better off having access to a 5 bar gas analyzer to see where the mixture is going when you are adjusting.
But it is not worth the effort.

Yes that is what I needed to know. So it looks like you can bolt on a s4 dynamic chamber and throttle body to get a little more air flow without hurting anything?

You can bolt on the entire intake system off the S4. The Hp increase is not substantial but is noticeable.
