S3 LIM on S4 NA engine?

Ok, honestly about 2 1/2 weeks looking for the answer to this, everywhere!!! I have searched and searched, bugged old and current friends for hours... To no avail...

My 85 GSL-SE died on me, Taking all stock stuff out of engine bay that doesnt need to be there. Got a 30k s4 NA engine for 250 and plan on putting a dellorto carb, race exaust, new tranny (mines bad), and my stock S3 LIM (upper from racing beat for carb)..

My problem is I never knew if they would match up, and through this forum, felix m's site, and other resources, I cant find a definitive answer. Well I got the S4 engine now, got my S3 LIM (lower intake manifold) off my dead engine, pulled off all emmisions. And I just now got the gasket for the S3 LIM to go to the S4 engine, I used a S3 gasket btw. Ok the side ports match up, and the metal from the s3 manifold will block up the emmisions crud. But the 2 center intake ports, well the top and sides are a perfect fit... But it seems the S4 engine intake is about 3/16" bigger on the 2 middle intakes... Everything matches up perfectly but on the bottom of the 2 center intakes, when you have the gasket on, you can put your finger down about 3/16 of an inch... It looks like everything will seal up and everything.. But the S4 engine center ports are going to have a drop in them from the S3 intake/gasket anyone have experiance with this?

Ill try to post some pics later.

BTW while im making this thread, ill add another q in it...
Do I have all of the gaskets that I need for the engine?

Exaust header
LIM to engine
LIM to UIM
Front engine cover + O ring
Oil pan
Water pump

Thanks alot,
the nervous mechanic

Do you have the gaskets that go between the uim and the carb? Good luck.

You should be ok. Just trim the gasket so it doesn't block the flow of the gas entering the engine

NO I dont have that gasket, have to check out racing beat, delarto parts are hard to get I suppose, but the gasket should be the same for a webber I believe.

And yes thank you, the 2 primary ports on the manifold are higher than the 2 on the engine... The gasket lies flush with the s3 LIM ports.. so the gas getting caught shouldn't happen then right?

Im pretty sure that that is what you mean, when put to the engine, the gasket is 3/16" higher than the bottom of the engines primary ports, but flush with the LIM. So I shouldn't need to trim it at all, OR did you mean to trim the gasket to be flush with the lower primary port opening? I figured if I did that it shouldn't cause any leaks.

BTW I am terrible at trying to describe stuff via a forum lol, trust me in real life, I make more sence

Check out the soft mounts from mazda trix. Supposedly isolate the carb to reduce vibration and seal it up.

If these are the cream colored plastic spacers with gooves for o-rings on each side that you're refering to, they come with most all of the 2 barrel carbs I've seen. Not only do the do a great job sealing out vacuum leaks, they also function as a thermal break between the carb and intake manifold. They are a must have as the paper gaskets usually don't seem to seal well at that joint. Fwiw, they are the same part for all 3 of the different side draft brand carbs.
