Doubt many here have tried it yet. Would definitely like to know if you prove it's possible though. Have you priced one yet?

Too bad they don't offer a 5 speed version... Seeing this:

Code:
1 3 5 R
| | | |
-------
| | |
2 4 6
would annoy me to no end, because 6 isnt really there and because the R isn't in the right place.

Would give you something to do with the Automatic shift illumination wiring though.

You should be able to get a 5spd shifter from the UK or Japan, both markets offer a 5spd low-po version of the 8 instead of the auto trans.

not at the moment.. but ill get one for you tomorrow..

in short it a little silver barrel shape with a black leather grip. best fitting gear **** that ive ever felt, and it shortens the throw a fair bit.

and it matches the 5speed shift pattern

The reverse on the RX-8 is on the lower right, not up top

Never driven a manual one... At the 2004 Rev It Up, they took the manual one away because people kept grinding gears and bouncing it off the rev limiter... I got to drive the automatic one, which was a HUGE disapointment.

Drivers also did the same the the Miata, but I guess Miatas are cheaper then 8's...

EU-spec'd low-power versions come with 5-speed ones aswell, so you can probable even order one from the Mazda-dealer (what you pay extra on the part, you'll safe on the shipping)if you know the part number. Maybe someone must simple ask Mazdatrix about these things.

I've got a UK 5-speed light-up RX-8 **** for my car. It doesn't fit the stock threads, you need an S5 shift lever to make it work.
