On my '84 GSL-SE, the previous owner had two kill switches installed. One shut of the fuel pump and was located in the storage bin. I had troubles with the fuel pump cutting in and out, and it was due to corrosion on the switch, so I just removed it. The other is actually pretty useful. It's a small toggle switch near your right knee on the carpeted panel. Flip it, and everything works except the starter. I have no clue how they wired it, but it seems like it cuts the power to the starter from the key switch. Works good and had me pretty baffled the first time I accidentally flipped it. LOL

RX-7? Security? Hah!

First-gens are SOOOOO easy to break into. There's the "master key", and then there's the doorhandle trick, and then there's the sunroof trick. Any of those will let someone in and allow a thief to take your stereo or any possesions. If it's like any other Japanese car (haven't looked yet) bypassing the ignition is also easy. And hotwiring is really really simple, too...

The only solution is the Piece O' Crap Anti-Theft System... (when the thieves see it's a piece o' crap they don't bother with it!)

I belive in good insurance. If they want it, they will get it.
and Alarms are no good for kids out to get thier kicks.
they may run away, but they can do alot of damage in a minute.

An old thing I had, was a switch that killed all the exterior lights but the headlight. So if someone steals my car at night, they can drive off, but with no lights most cops will pull them over

Sneaky...

And if they're dumb they'll try to flee... and if they're REALLY dumb they'll overcook a corner and try to brake in the middle of the corner...

(remember that one episode of world's (adjective)est police chases where a guy stole a 1st-gen and did just that? All of us RX'ers saw the taillights come on in the middle of a turn... "Yep, he's done")

As far as keeping someone from driving away with your 7, probably the easiest thing to do (if you are worried enough about having it stolen) is to pull one of the coil wires and the distributer rotor and take it with you. A lot fewer would-be thiefs bring spare parts with them -- you could at least cut out the "joy rider" theives anyway...

If you install a kill switch or switches make sure it cuts out the ignition, fuel pump AND the starter. Mine's setup so it arms itself automatically 30 secs after you shut the ignition down and you disarm it by inserting a device that looks like a microphone jack into a hidden socket. Works well. As for club locks, I saw one advertised in a magazine that doubles as a taser and puts out several thousand volts as well as a loud ear piercing siren when the would be thief touches it. He'd probably jump so hard he'd put his head through the roof.

Angry Not my style. Violence inside.

Theft is a bit easier to deter. Vandalism isn't so easy, and hence is a bigger concern of mine.

I used to take the subway to work. My dad works for the transit authority, and gets a free ride to his office via subway. We usually park in a lower, out of the way area of the parking deck and it helps keep the elements off of our cars.

Upon getting to my home subway station, I saw someone fiddling with the lugs on my car, the tire flat. He was using one of those cheap unfoldable spiders in American sizes, rounding off my lug bolt heads. (I always put them on at well over 90 Ft-Lbs using my dad's torque ratchet, which I always return to his car trunk, along with the rest of his tools.)

"Need a little help there? I've got tools you can use." I say to the guy. He's a bit startled, but I'm raising the hatch of a car a few spaces down from where he is and getting a toolbox. He accepts, relieved that I don't appear to suspect that he is vandalizing the car. (I can only assume he was going to cause an accident, because who the hell would steal stock + shaped rims?)

I hand him several sockets, and I take out the three foot long, half inch drive, Craftsman torque ratchet as he tries the sockets. Upon fitting the 19mm to the lugs he starts to turn to me and ask for the ratchet.

Oh, I gave it to him, all right. Upside the head and in the ribs.

"What the **** man?!? What's wrong with you???" as he begins to run away.

"No! What's wrong with YOU!?! Don't EVER **** with a man's car!"

He realizes his mistake and turns to run, but not before I catch his jaw and knee with the ratchet.

I then change my tire and replace the tools in my dad's trunk.

What comples people to mess with other's cars?

Consequentially, He was caught a few days later, vandalizing other cars nearby, and is blamed for several accidents, including a fatal one. It's easy to recognize a face in the local paper when his jaw is hanging at a funny angle.

Hahaha - ****** right!!

I have a Clifford alarm with an ignition and starter disable, and a whole bunch of sensors. It's fun to set it really sensitive and watch people jump when it screeches at them lol.

Wicked catching that punk in the act!! Damn I don't what I'd do if I caught someone doing something to my car.... My fear is not knowing when to stop... I'd end up killing him. I have a short fuse when it comes to things like that! In a situation like that I would have just walked up to him and probably bary that wrench in his face, and not stop. Good work My man!! Thevies risk alot, and there are many people out there that will pound them and leave them for dead. One guy went as far as to back over a thevies legs after beating him unconcious. He had a civic I beleive.

I have an Alpine alarm with door and hatch pins on my SE. When I bought the car it also came with a fuel pump toggle switch and this button under the dash where all the wires are that cuts all power except the stereo. I want to get a club and wheel locks and thats about all I could do for security I think.

i'm going to try a different approach... a regular alarm(clifford or alpine) and i've seen 140db alarms. now 140db will make your ears bleed. you can hear it from a mile away. my idea is to put it INSIDE the car. regular siren on the outside. now whoever feels they can handle 140db in an enclosed space is more than welcome to take my car. in the end i know i'll have taken their hearing and i can always replace the car, but hearing?... don't think so.
