Runing issue

Last year i bought a 1980 rx 7 and it ran great. But recently it died on my way to work. It has new fule filter spark plugs battery and alternator. I can get it to start and idle but after a min or 2 it dies and won't start again. Any suggestions on what could be wrong.

A consideration is parts house parts generally don’t last as long as oem. For the fuel pump , it’s easy to change out. I’m going from memory here but a lot of carburetor rated pumps run higher pressure than the Mazda carburetor wants to see. I think for the Mazda it’s 1.5psi. But I’m going from fuzzy memory. So illl happily be corrected.

Checking the fuel pump is a good place to start, but I'd think that either the pump works or it doesn't. Working for a minute or two then not working but functioning again later isn't a common fault for a pump. Have you ever had a look inside the fuel tank? Rust, gunk and debris can build up over time and settle in the bottom. When you start the car and the pump draws fuel from the tank, loose crud can be sucked up and collect around the fuel sock and choke off the flow. After it shuts off, the draw is gone and the debris fall back away.

Also, since it's a 40+ year old car, the fuel soft lines aren't so shot any longer. all the the fuel soft lines should be replace from the tank to carb. They are 6mm and 8mm.
