Unhappy Rough Idle at start

I am sorry if this is a double post, but I did a search and found nothing similar.

I have a 85 GSLSE and every time I start my car it idles rough and sounds like a lawn mower, and then after a minute it starts to idle smooth. This is very wierd to me never happened before. My car does have 183,000 but when it warms up she runs strong.

Thanks

Maccoi

The same thing happens too me. When I start her up she idle's real low and sometimes turns off but when it warms up it idle's nice.

same here - always real sluggish until she warms up - like all her plugs arent firing or something - then after about 30 seconds at 2-3k rpms she's fine - been progressively getting worse too i think

any advise?

I had the same problem. Remove the blue plug on the trailing coil (so it won't pump fuel) and crank it for a few seconds. Pull the plugs and see if there is moisture on them, as mine had. I had a small water jacket leak that caused mine to run like crap the first few seconds, until the water was gone, then ran great.

I have been reading some of the threads here and do you guys think it might be carbon build up or a stuck apex seal. The symtoms sound almost the same.
I hope it's not a water jacket seal, that will be a bumer.

I was just thinking, if I have water in the engine wouldn't blow lots of white smoke when I start it?

Right, a white cloud WILL happen if it's a coolant seal.

This weekend I am going to try the marvel myst. oil trick that I read about on another thread. I'll see if it was carbon build up or a stuck apex seal.

Man o man what a cloud I made this morning. I tried some mmo in the engine via the spark plugs. I put the mmo in last night and I let it sit over night and started this morning and poof what a cloud. I drove down to the office 12 miles away to blow out the carbon maybe that was the reason for my idleing problem.
I found two things:
1 The car is running much stonger, my old car is back, through the whole power band.
2 The rough idle is gone.

Thanks guys for havin such a good source of information on my car.
This site is awsome
