how can it be?
ok, are 2nd gens slow as hell or what? i drove one today just test driving it to have a little fun, but it seemed slow as hell. it didnt have half the pep my 85 gs has. and it didnt take off the line or anything, i thought all 13b rx-7s were pretty fast. oh yeah the 2nd gen was a gxl i believe, i dont know what that all means, but its just wierd to me how slow they seem.

Well, look at it this way... the GXL was the top of the line deluxe model, had every option you could think of, and some you can't. That stuff adds weight. Granted, they power on the 13B was pumped up to 146, I believe for the '86-'88 cars, but they still weighed in the low-mid 3000 pound range... now, take into account that many of the second gens out there were bought as cars, not RX7's.. the care taken on those cars seems to be lesser than what you find with a first gen. And even new, the NA second gens were all THAT much faster than a strong 12A car...

all i know is that i was not impressed at all with the performance of this rx-7 and the suspension was totally ****, it was all loose and the back end sunk like a mother with you started off the line. that may be cuz im used to my tokico and eibach suspension, but none the less it just sucked over all.

That's gross vehicle weight... as in, how much the car will weigh when loaded with as much stuff as Mazda feels safe in allowing you. That is not curb weight.

My 83 by the numbers (HP to weight ratio) shouldve kept up with a T2.
The only 2nd gen I would own would be a T2, only because the N/As are just a little too slow for my tastes with the extra weight .

PS - If you think the GXL was slow, try driving a N/A 'vert .
