Are rotor housings fixable?

Hi, i just took apart 12a after about 160,000 miles on it. The irons look pretty good, i can move my finger and hardly feel any grooves. The rotor housings on another hand are worn out.

The rear rotor housing has all the chrome but on one of the edges i can see where the apex seal ate through the housing. The front housing has a little bit of chrome missing on a side.

I was hoping to do a little cheap mild port and re-use all the parts. Does anyone know if the rotor housings could be fixed or am i better off buying used ones?

If the flaking of the chrome doesn't extend more than 3mm in from the edge, the housing may be reusable.

I got to get home and measure it but i think it would be at least 3mm. So there is no way i could add chrome to it if i had to?

What about the one that has all the chrome but i can see some wear on one side, can i still use that?

If it still has the chrome, and it isn't too pitted, it should work...

Check out Mazdatrix FAQ.

Thanks, they do have some usefull info there.

Mine looks just like the 4th picture where it says that it is questionable because there is some flaking there, i guess i just got to measure it.

I don't expect that engine to last too long so hopefully i might be able to get way with using both housings.

if there is chrome missing , throw it away! every time the apex seal rides over that spot the seal jumps wich will cause it to break, not to mention the motor will seal like **** where the chrome is missing

This is right. Get different housings.

Yeah what the hell, just forget about Mazda's specifications for how much wear is acceptable for reuse and pitch 'em in the trash can.

I think you guys are right i do need different housings, i measured the flaking and it was like 5-6mm from the edge. So much for a cheap project...thanks everyone.
