Replacing Wheel Bolts w/ Studs and Lug Nuts

Has anyone replaced the Lug Bolts with double threaded studs and lug nuts. Seems like it should work, just trying to see if it's feasible and if there are any problems. The Lug Bolts are not readily available around here, but locally I can get the double sided studs and lug nuts. Thanks.

I recently snagged a nice set of four WeldWheel wire wheels, complete with the original RWL BFGs on there in good shape:

But they don't mount with the lug bolts, too short.

So after some research I came up with these guys for the lug stud/nut conversion to mount the Welds:

https://www.ebay.com/usr/lugnutkingi...72.m2749.l2754

After some email exchanges they knew exactly what I needed to mount the Welds and then posted an ebay ad special for me.

$44 delivered for the chromed studs, 2 sets of offset mounting washers needed for the welds and a pretty set of lug nuts to go with the wires.

Take some measurements to figure out what you need then check out their website for options and give them a call.

You got those LE wheels mounted yet?

I got the studs from Mazdatrix and deep nuts from...... Gorilla? This was literally the first mod I made to my car. Makes it super easy to mount any 4x110 rims you can find.

Here is where I always got mine. https://track-studs.myshopify.com/collections/m12x1-5
I still use their lug nuts - 12mm X 1.5 with a 17mm Hex

The trick with studs like these is to install them with loctite and check them from time to time. In 9 years of racing with these kinds of studs I never had one come loose.

Years ago I put some honda civic studs in my SA. I just pressed them in like normal studs. I do remember I had to dremel the holes out a bit.

These bolt on solutions you write about seem like a better option, but I had stripped holes and the oe lug bolts wouldn't go in my car.

Whatever route you take remember there are a number of different seats that hold wheels to hubs. Some wheels need conic seats some need "acorn" style, and some are like Toyota that use a strickly hub centric wheel and only hold the wheel flat. Conic seat lugs come in various numbers of degrees. Just keep this in mind when shopping for wheels and lugnuts.

Pull through studs are much safer and more reliable than theaded studs, even with loctite. Year's ago on my 80, the American Racing wheels I had required studs and I used threaded studs to marginal effect. Half the time, when I'd remove the lug nuts, a stud would unthread right along with it. You'll never have that problem with pull through studs, and also why Mazda went this route with the change to 4x114.3 on the SE, along with 14" wheels.

I am running these identical studs/nuts I believe. Turner (BMW) sells a kit of this similar hardware as the BMW's are typically a factory bolt and guys want to switch to studs.

Same feedback... installed into front rotors with loctite and have never had an issue.

If you would have put RED Lock-tite on the studs thread and wait til dry.. You might get them out with a torch... aka heat wrench.
