I had that problem as well. The only way to do it is to go really slowly and carefully. Or do what I did and don't worry about the clips (just go to your mazda dealer and order a couple more, don't think they were very expensive)

the top and bottom come off fairley easy. the side ones are a litte harder. I used a small screew driver with and bend at the end. they will just pop off. just be carefull not to break the clips. you can alwayz get new ones also.

You can get the winshield trim kit for the ENTIRE front windshield for $10 from the Victoria British catalog. You really can't afford not to go ahead and replace them all. Besides, it is nearly impossible to take the trim off without breaking SOMETHING. With new clips you can be sure that everything will fit snug and look great....

Anytime baby!
Isn't powder coating the way to go with the trim? I've had it painted before and it just reverted back to chrome in a year or two? I'm getting the Mound painted in July and I figured I'd take the trim and have it powder coated. Can't cost too much, right?
Right on.

Powder coating is somewhat impractical. Not all of it is UV resistant, and it will chip from rocks. Repairs means it will have to come off and be re-powdered, paint on the other hand can be touched up in place.
I have a brown on brown GSL turd too. One of these days I'll get it put back together.

My plastic clips were so brittle that they broke off without using any tools!
I figured I was just going to the glass place to get new ones anyways so I don't really care.
The top and bottom pieces just pull straight up.
The side piece has one screw at the bottom (open the door) and then push back towards the side glass then lift the trailing edge away from the car. (or was that push forward and lift leading edge? sorry can't remember)

Break the clips. your glass shop can get 'em for you or ebay also has them for $10 a set. Vic Brit is fine too, and I think they offer a special plastic tool for a couple of bucks extra...
I powdercoated mine and its seems bullet proof and looks fabulous
