Reliability Mods and More...Much More!

Hey guys,
I just got my baby back after having a new clutch put in (Bonez Street Comp Clutch) in what was the first of probably a few reliability mods I hope to do. I was just wondering what you guys would recommend I should do next??

I planned on updating the cat converter to probably a Bonez Performance Converter (http://rx7.com/store/rx7/saexhaust.html). If any of you follow the link can you tell me what the difference is in going with a larger size (2" vs. 2.5")? Sorry about the noob-ish questions but I'm just starting to get into this stuff.

After the cat conv. I would like to address the muffler and then the brakes, followed by the suspension system. Ideas on any of this would be greatly appreciated!

Finally, and from all my time searching I know this has been beaten to death, but the g'damn 4x110 bolt pattern! Does anybody know of some direct-fit wheels? I guess Panasports are a popular choice, but I'm not really into those. Kosei's are gorgeous though!

Alrighty this was pretty a pretty loaded post haha, thanks for all your help. Savannah says thanks too (and yes before you pick on me I know that's what they called the 2nd gen and not the first 7s haha, I just really like the name).

Search the forum. for once I'll be the first to mention it. There is one thread that shows a good amount of wheels in the 4x110, posted a couple weeks back. Konig rewinds come in that pattern and look strikingly similar to panasports, but there are other styles. Although in my opinion that style is the best looking hands down on first gens.

Choose your muffler wisely, as most will not hold up to the heat of the rotary. My recommendation is replace everything from the header back. I have a full RB streetport exhaust and it gave me quite a boost in power/torque, although it cost a fortune. Check the for sale section for used parts. If you don't have to run a cat, don't bother.

Other reliability mods would be susension (depending on the current condition of yours), new ignition parts (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coils if you need them) Door and window seals. A decent set of tires would do wonders as well.

In Japan and Australia, the first gens were Savannah's. The auto makers like to screw with everything when they bring the cars to North America.

No you didn't. You said it was 4 x 110. That pattern is only on the 12A powered cars.

Rotarians are so astute! Another quick question which may be more appropriate for the RB guys, but i know that the entire RB exhaust setup is street-illegal in California, but what about just the power pulse muffler?

honestly, i wouldnt get a cat, i would just get tested and switch to performance exhaust then back to stock when you need to get tested again. as far as a good exhaust, rb, or cutstom. they dotn make kosei k1s for our pattern anymore so youll have to get them used, not too hard, just watch the classifieds.

You can swap all of the exhaust from the main cat back and remain legal if you wish.

Some people here have pass smog with the RB street/collector header and Bonez high flow cat with the RB muffler. It depends on where you go to get smog done, some smog station don't check that throughly visually and doesn't know the RB header is aftermarket. You can also use the stock headshields to cover up the RB header.

haha damn man you guys get tricky. i actually just got smogged probably 3 weeks ago since i just bought the car, so i won't have to worry about it for a couple years i guess. although then again i did barely pass, i was running pretty rich.

but anyways if i do go ahead and replace the converter what are your thoughts on going bigger than 2"? at this point i don't really think it's necessary or even advisable, but in the future i hope to see at least a few more mods made so i'm wondering if that should be considered?

Replace the fuseable links in the engine compartment. Your car is 20+ and these are known to fail at any moment. There is a write up on it in the archives.

I wouldn't go larger than 2", unless there is a turbo involved.
