Rebuild soon... Which kit?

Well guys, here's the scenario... I recently noticed a little bit of coolant leaking externally between the front iron and rotor housing just above the omp. Sooo, I'm thinking rebuild time. This should also give me a good chance to do a little porting so I'm -retty excited about it..lol. My question here is that the car still runs great, great compression etc. So I'm wondering if I could get by with just a gasket kit from Atkins? Or should I pick up a rotor kit also? This will be my first solo rebuild, so I'm not sure if I can reuse the apex seals etc. Thanks in advance for any info.

Open her up

clean up, inspect, measure

then, replace as needed

Buy whatever you need, after opening her up

These engines (quoting Forrest) are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you´ll find

I opened mine and found out the apex seal groove to be expanded as hell, and the housings were trashed.

that's what i was hoping you guys wouldn't say..lol. Just spent an @$$ load of money doing my suspension... so a $900 rebuild kit is un-obtainable for a couple months. was hoping I could squeak by with the cheap-o kit. But I guess it wouldn't be so smart to skimp in this department.... DAMMIT!

Carma, dude, carma. At least I dont' have to buy a whole new rebuild kit to do my old engine, I can use the seals from the boat anchor you ripped me off for.

riiiggghhhtt!!... A full bridge 12a with all new bearings and seals for $1500... a boat anchor. I thought you and your daddy were going to take it over to Pettit to have it checked out. If you had you'd have found out that engine was in fine shape. Let me see, this is your first rx7, your first, first hand view of a bridged 12a and you've never popped an engine open before, nor done any porting..... BUUUTT you and your dad are the pre-emptive experts on all things rotary and think that it's ok to call and threaten me, and now to try and bad mouth me on this board?? After I've had many transactions with many different members?? Let's really get to the meat and potatoes here, your daddy thinks the bridgey is too much car for you, plus you're probably in need of $5000 worth of maintainance or supporting mods just to make that POS remotely road worthy, much less to handle a full bridged engine.

Sooo, just to clarify....

Don't thread jack!!
Don't try to run my name through the mud!!
And KARMA is spelled with a K......*******!

So why don't you "raise anchor" and move on??

Hmm, so lying about everything on the engine is okay then? Ceramic seals? New rotor housings? Done up by a well known shop? Where's the ******* proof?

-Apexes were OEM steel.
-Housings were FAR from new, the chrome was flaking off on the compression side.
-You never sent me the paper work on the engine either.
-The ports weren't even matched, they were all different sizes between the irons, so were the exhaust ports.
-Even the apex seal grooves in the rotors were out of spec, it looked like someone took an angle grinder down the grooves.

Whatever dude,

Good stuff...I'd say pull the motor, get a ceramic apex seal kit and then give it to Box_Man or find another forum to screw members on......just what we need, another Protodermis/PREACHER....

I'm rebuilding my Cosmo engine right now. After pricing out most rebuild kits at over $1000, I decided to go a la carte from Mazdatrix. I didn't need many of the seals, so this cut my cost almost in half.

Heh, I like that idea. That, and send me that Racing Beat clutch kit that he promised me.
