Rearview Mirrors

Does anyone else think the FB's side mirrors are a little too big and out of proportion with the rest of the car? I have a silver 84 with black mirrors, and they really stand out more than I wouuld like them to. I was thinking of taking them off, but then I would be left with bolt/screw holes in their place. Has anyone replaced his or her mirrors with something more tasteful? Perhaps a machined rotary-shaped mirror....

IMHO, anything smaller than the stock mirrors would not be functional. Meaning the overall diameter of the glass.

Maybe I am just around the car too much (is that possible?) and start noticing weird things. I drove a cadillac XLR once, and the only thing I did not like about it were the giant rectangular side mirrors that could have come off an Escalade. Maybe if I just painted the mirrors to match the car they would not stand out.

The black mirrors, along with the pop up headlights and X wheels, are icons of the 1st gen RX-7s. They are well designed and do their job - they tell you what is behind you, like a police car or something like that. You could paint them I suppose, but it would be a little like painting a statue of Jesus fluorescent green.

If he's Buddhist I don't suppose a Jesus statue would matter much.

I think it's the power mirrors that stick out too much, I like my manual S trim mirrors.

I am not Buddhist, and I switched my X wheels with 15 x 7 Konigs, but mostly for handling purposes. I refuse to get rid of the X wheels though, they are rather fitting to the car. I like my pop up headlights, though I might get brighter bullbs, I hope that is not equivalent to painting a Jesus statue green, as I do not think poor visibility at night is an icon of 1st gen RX-7s.
