12at parts questions?

i have a 12at engine i bought almost a year ago but have yet to install. i am trying to build the perfect platform for it. which is why i need some advice. i have a 83 shell thats been stripped. i removed just about everything and i have a gsl-se susp setup to install they have new shocks (hp blues) and springs (rb). and sadly the rotors were bad so i replaced all of them and last for the susp. i have urathane bushings. my goal is to build a well balanced rx7 i know i will never be able to be the fastest car or the best looking but i would like to be in the middle. i think the susp is good but i need to take care of the other area... powerplant! the only way i see to bring the 12at to life is a standalone unit after much looking i belive a microtech will give me the options needed to get it running well. i dont know what kind of fuel pump to use (thinking bosh idk size though) i am going to need to fab up a custom intake and exaust system as well as a intercooler. but with the custom exaust, intercooler, and intake i should need more fuel right? the 12at only has 2 injectors 800cc's so what would i need to add to insure that the car will be running normal?

Do not attempt to make a intake If you mees up in the intake port size the flow will be off and your motor will pulse causeing much more money to be spent.

What kinda budget are you looking at as well? It will help us get an idea of what you need.

well i dont want to spend alot of money but i also dont want to not spend enough, and end up with something thats needs to be replaced with every mod. like if 1k will get it moving but 2k will get it scalding then might as well go for it

ok for 1,500 you can get a JDM T2 with tranny ecu and harness complete
Do that.
It will generate almost twice the power.
But if your so certian the 12A-T is what you want then keep it original cuz there are very few in the USA and CANADA
You have to way originality or power with this one.
Original is the 12A-T
Power is the 13B-T
By the sounds of it your looking for power so i would get the T2.

And im sure everyone else will agree that its much easy to find parts for the T2 if something brakes.

One thing people never think of is engine wieght.

-lightend flywheel with counterwieght, will make the rev up much faster!

Plus you should lower the rear gear ratio, that will make it a quick car without haveing to mod the engine soo much.

Do that and i think it will be just what your looking for, a quick light to light street car.
+ you engine will last much longer, not being so modded.

You should run a bigger fuel pump and a fuel pressure regulator that way you can get more fuel and tune it so you dont lean out.

If you decide to go the TII route, you won't be 'stuck' with the 12AT. You should have no problem at all selling it, members are frequently asking for them.

If it was me, I would first determine the things that I wanted from the results: hp, streetability, tuning ease, parts availibility, cost, etc.. Once you have determined your needs/factors, compare which engine will give you the better of each item.

I have a 12AT in my 79 Rx7. Im looking for some nice HP numbers when everything is set up right. The target is 300RWHP but that will just be a one off just to reach the target then lower the boost to a more sensible setting for the road.

The specs
-12AT - extend ported (nothing too big, but the centreplate ports on a stock 12AT are tiny.. so if you have the motor open best to do something about it.) Also ported exhaust ports

-Lightened flywheel and H/D clutch

-Series 5 Rx7 gearbox

-Intake of a gen 2 turbo (called a series 4 in Aus), thats the throttlebody, upper and lower intake manifold. A company in AUS called ASK make an adapter plate to fit this intake to the 12a with no problems.

-2x 12AT (800cc) and 2x S4 Rx7 (550cc) injectors
-Bosch 909 EFI pump, with a pieburg pre pump. 1LT surge tank

-Front mount intercooler (about same size as radiator)

-Turbo is from the series 5 rx7, it has been hiflowed to about a 58mm comp wheel, ported internal wastegate

-Custom made exhaust manifold to mount turbo.

-3" exhuast from turbo back, 2 mufflers

-Microtech MT4 fuel only comp, locked dizzy (for now, going MTX8 with ignition control ina couple o weeks)

IT may seem like lots of work, but get it in and running and you can upgrade to these things over time.

Dont be a sheep and just chuck in the 13B turbos.. sure there cheap and easy, but where is the fun in that.
