I can hear something rattling inside both of my side mirrors when I drive. If I pry the mirror glass to the side I think I can see loose screws, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get inside the mirrors to check. The glass doesn't seem to come off, and I don't see a way to take them apart. Help?

 

Well, figured it out. It's in the factory service manual. Heat the glass up and pry it off the plastic it's stuck to. Don't be a caveman like me and break the glass prying it off before heating up all the adhesive, heat the whole mirror face a bit first. The adhesive softens very easily.

The screws behind the plastic backer for the mirror glass, which hold the whole assembly in place, were loose. All four screws in both mirrors were loose, which was what I was hearing.

 

Yikes, too bad you had to learn the hard way. I did too, but luckily on my beater and not my FD.
