Rear speaker bondo in place?!

With the winter projects in full swing I'm rewiring the speakers since there's easier access to the wires and when removing the left rear speaker I find this! What, when, why and who?! Looks like the speaker flange was intentionally hammered in then the gap filled with a thick layer of bondo. In the words of my middle child that's 4... what the bad word is that?! And that is an exact word for word quote from him to be clear.
