hey guys my rear running lights are out but my break lights work my blinkers work and my reverse lights work is this a common problem or not and does anyone no of an easy way to fix it

 

You mean the lights that will turn on when you have your headlights turned on?

If so, then do your interior lights work? If not, check the fuse... I had a friend who had a similar problem with his GSL-SE, the problem was that he had a wire shorting to his frame from a radio delete and it was blowing the courtesy lamp fuse which apparently runs the running lights as well. Go Figure?

 

Check you fuses under the left of the dash. One of em is blown. Had the same issue not too long ago after installing my power locks. I blew the fuse without even knowing it while fidling under the dash.

 

yea and the lights in the dash doont work

 

i dont think its a fuse cus i checked them all

 

Front and rear parking/running lights, side marker lights, interior lights, storage box lights, glove box light, and dash lights are all supplied with power from the same source. 12V supply is a Red/green wire coming from the combination switch. Start by removing the steering column cover and (with the parking lights on) check the Red/green wire for 12V at the combination switch plug. If you find no power, check for 12V at the Red wire in the same plug. The Red wire comes directly from the fuse. It should always have 12V. The fuse for this circuit should be 10 amp, 3rd from rear (of car), left hand side.

My buddy's problem was that he had uncovered wires shorting to the car frame.

Try this: Replace the fuse, then turn on your running lights. It sounds like a short so you should blow that fuse.

I would say that if you played around with your radio set-up check that for any cut wires, test light helps to find wires that are hot.

If you didn't mess with your wiring before hand then check all the light bulbs in the tail lights and such. If you're still blowing fuses, look up the wiring diagram for that circuit and trace down all potential places where the wires coudl break or become damaged.

 

i just got my 7 yesterday been workin on int all night my dash light was out but it was the dimmer switch one problem solved for me but every other light is working but the rear running lights all fuses are fine i think it has a short in the wiring because not gettin voltage in the rear so i have to rewire it .......will post results

 

If it's a short, you'll blow a fuse (or start a fire somewhere) when you turn the lights on.

If the lights are out but no fuse blows, and supposing the bulbs are good, then you've got an open circuit somewhere, not a short. Most likely place is hte switch, since it's the "wear point." The rest is all just wire. On a car that's seen mods, it's also common to find a wire that was cut unintentionally.

The at-the-switch check that 74RX4 wrote up is the logiccal and easy place to start, because you can get to it easy (just a couple screws) and it lets you confirm or eliminate the most-likely point of failure.

Electrical 101 - - "A blown fuse is not a fault; it is a SYMPTOM of a fault." If you have a blown fuse, something overloaded for some reason. If you don't figure out why it blew, it's gonna eventually happen again.

 

i found the problem in my car i tested the the tail lights and they were not getting voltage but only when the brakes are applied so i was checking grounds and decided to test everything back there so i checked the rear markers and found that both wires were getting ground instead of one pos. and one neg. so i traced the wires threw the storage box and found a **** load of wires cut so i just wired it to something that sends voltage when the parking lights are on so that solved my problem you should just check to see if thats the same just get a voltmeter or a regular tester and start checking everything thats what i did i hope this helps
