Rear end pumkin damaged

Only have a 12 streetport. Dont launch the car only weekend it took me a long time to find this part.finally got it for $300 usd is damaged on one tooth . Still Can be spung with out no issues . Was thinking of installing it as is ? Asked a couple machine shops and they said i can fether edge it and grind it down a bit ? Why would i grind down the only bad gear and take it down dont understand what feather edge is by the way. Guys what you suggest alot have told me buy the peace or racing beat yeah i know they sell them but they cost $900.

I would not run it and ask to return it if the seller did not disclose the damage. The ring gear can be replaced but will require a new crush washer and setting lash. Not something a beginner should tackle.

Grinding it down will remove the pieces that will eventually continue to break off the damaged tooth, and "feathering" it will produce a "smoother" engagement.

Definitely not questioning your expertise. I would not run it either and would check for a return. But he can replace the ring gear w/o removing the pinion can't he.

I completely went through the same rear end and replaced the discs and all. I did not replace the crush washer or remove pinion. I did check the lash though and made sure on the ft lbs on the pinion.

been running fine since then

While the ring gear can be removed by itself, it's generally discouraged to mix and match ring and pinions especially used ones.
