Any Ideas on How to Do this Rear End?

I've been loving this picture since I first saw it a few months ago... I think I PMed him about it but I can't remember...

Basically I have been wracking my brains trying to figure out how he got such a beautiful rear end!

I can't come up with an idea that sounds right... so I am going to ask you guys on your ideas. If I get enough money and time I will probably try it on my seven...

But yeah.. open to discussion!

Take off the rear bumper and the bumper shocks, it will leave you with a gap. Weld in a piece of sheet steel smoothed and formed to the lines of the rear. Smooth it out.

Once you have the bumper off the car, it becomes very obvious what needs to be done.

ummm without putting the bumper back on? Better hope to god nobody decides to run something bigger than a smart car up there. Even a tap will write it off...

How about you cut/shorten the bumper shocks, then remount the bumper, THEN do the sheet metal fab...???
Pretty sure you can shorten them enough to do the same thing and keep your bumper. I did mine this way, cuz I think it looks better... personal preference, but I remember considering doing the smooth look, so I think you can keep the bumper.

Rotaryboy that *** is tight.

Did you do all the work? Have any progress pics?

And for the record, you are gonna be just as screwed in a collision with your setup being that it is all smoothed in.

The stock bumper setup allowed the bumper to move in a bit. But once its fixed like that, well...

Though it looks great, it is not practical for a street driven car. Show car yes

I like that set up RotoryBoy! I agree with Mike... Definetly have to consider how to make that work with a collision...

+1 to the progress pics?

I like the look without the black rubber trim pieces. Not a great legacy from the 70's-80's.

but you'll be screwed when a shopping cart broadsides you! j/k

I've accepted my fate of taking long walks, not on the beach, but through parking lots so I don't have to park with the people that don't seem to give a **** about anyone but themselves.

I've wanted to do something similar, but what do you do to update the front?

I agree that cosmetically it look's good. But with that being said I would never EVER do this to my own vehicle, bumpers are there for a reason. Taking the safety features of a car away IMO isn't the smartest idea.

my bumpers are still there. I've accepted the fact that if I get hit by anything bigger than a football I'm going to have to do it all again. three words. Manitoba Public Insurance. I'd be a mess if it ever got hit, but I wouldn't be out too much. I hope. But I'd be an absolute mess if it ever got hit. I'd cry for a week.

And thanks Mikewoodkozar! Its done in metal, which me and the old man did. We hired someone to do the final fiberglass stuff and the paint.
A couple build pics at www.cardomain.com/ride/2303192
But I have dial=up and didn't take as many as i should have. The updated front you speak of is supposed to be in my sig, but I'm not sure if its working or not. Also at the same cardomain site.

i dont remember if youre rocking a SA chasis now or not, but sink in both bumper. with the SA you can sink in the bumpers and theyre still functional. if its an FB the best option is the IMSA front bumper, good luck finding one.
