Rad temp/level sensor?

I have been getting some leaking from this sensor on top of the Rad, so today I unscrew it and of course it broke the wire at the cap. I retaped the screw part of it and went to put it back in, when tightening it up, the top part broke off, leaving the inside part screwed in.

Will this cause me any problems until I can get the Rad replace in the next month or so?

I know the sensor will not work, I jsut dont want it blowing out causing it to overheat since its my daily driver.

thats just the level sensor, won't cause anything bad. But I do believe if you keep it like that it does leak out of it IIRC. You should be able to pull it out fairly easily and perhaps replace it with a bolt right now.

or you can smear some jb weld over it to seal it in. but you can probably back it out with a screw driver. I'd try and get it out before you just buy a radiator

Order the correct sensor in from Napa!

One of the most critical things on our engine is the cooling system. It is better to have all of the factory warning items in place!

That's not a bad price for the NAPA part Doc, thanks for the link. Couple that with one of those new $89 ACDELCO radiators Rock Auto has on clearance Rob and your cooling system should be good to go for another decade or two.

Doc, or anybody that coolant sensor on NAPA says its for a 84-85. Will it work on my 80? mazdatrix says 79-85 for a coolant level sensor. The store let me order it and said I could bring in my old one to make sure.

Thanks

if I may ask, does anyone know a good way to install these without breaking that wire?
I've gone through 3 at this point.

Yes; use an open end wrench and keep the wire up out of the way until you're done. They dont need to go in much more than hand tight, and will fracture if you tighten too much.

& don't lean on it when working on other stuff...
