racing bcuket seats
i was thinking of picking up an inexpensive racing bucket for the autocrossin'. i could use a little more upper body support than my 20 yr old stock seats can provide.
i was looking specifically at this bad mamma jamma: http://www.corbeau.com/brochure/clubman2.html
anyone have any experience with these seats, bad or good?
any suggestions for alternatives?
this isn't my daily driver, so comfort isn't my main concern. weight and support are more important than comfort, tho i don't want it to feel like i'm being poked inthe back by a million rusty nails.

Hey, those aren't too expensive, maybe I'll get those too (soon).
Anyway, since comfort isn't much of a concern, you may want to look for aluminum seats. Pretty cheap, and the covers are also cheap. They also hold you damn well (designed for rally racers). PITA to get in and out of, but other than that good seats.
I think most racing product companies sell them.

CPT,
I have autocrossed since 88' and the clubman is the seat I always used in CSP. This is an excellent seat for what you are doing! The only thing is if you use it as a daily driver(I know you are not) you will wear out the edge of it getting in and out. I switched over to FP and in the past have still used same seat, still works great even in a faster car! I now use a Momo, only because it came with the last car I bought. Again, I think that Clubman is an excellent choice...Have fun! Oh yah, check out my newest project! http://members.cardomain.com/7heaven

I plan on getting Kirkey Intermediates. They are very comfortable seats and the price is right. (just over $100) I don't know whether to get the "upright" or "layback" model though.... probably end up getting "upright" and just bolt it straight onto the floor.

I *was* thinking about getting the Economy model, but that one with a cover costs $100 - the Intermediate comes with the cover built-in and is only $10 more, and it also has much better lumbar support.

Be sure to sit in the seat before you buy it. Make sure it fits tight, you don't wanna be moving around in that seat. For your needs I'd reccomend a Kirkey or Ultrasheld aluminum seat. Cheap, light, and you can add padding in to not only make it more comfortable, but to snug you in the seat.
Don't let the seat guys talke you into buying a drag racer seat, those don't have much lateral support.
I test sat and bought my Ultrashield seat from

I made a mistake.... the Economy is $100 with padding, the Intermediate is $110 without padding, $180 with.
Oh well... the Economy is a good seat too, actually it seems to have better lateral support because of the different shape of the rib bolster.

I've sat in these before and they're a LOT more comfortable than they look... seats don't have to be soft if they're designed right! Look at bicycle seats... they're basically a hard plastic wedge with a little fabric over it, but with a properly-shaped one a person can ride all day with no discomfort.

gamble,
the rear end is very predictable, very stiff, and very noisy! I love it! This came from G-force engineering

This guy is very help full as long as you buy his stuff.

1st 7heaven, if you ever end up doing track schools or road racing, you should consider adding gussets to either side and on top of of that big bend in the middle of the tri-link. they tend to snap at the bend, especially under hard braking and downshifting found on a track. it should be just fine as is to autox.
also, i'd box in that bracket with gussets on the top of the diff housing, looks a little fragile.
sweet car by the way. lots of effort went into that car. i like the cell and fuel filler. and yeah, i saw the rx-792P race down at del mar fairgrounds around 1992. wicked sounding motor, nothing sounded quite like it. very fast, they coulda podium placed but one had brake failure and the other one got hit and the rear body exploded everywhere!

DriveFast... Jim Susko is a somewhat regular on Mazspeed. This issue came up, and like you say they only break in "extreme" situations like heavy braking when the rear tires lose contact with the ground. They've updated the design and it's supposed to be a lot stronger now.
I want a similar setup except I'm willing to cut the floor so I can use a straight bar instead of a bent one.
