Quick wiring and interior question on my 83

Hey fellas,

I'm FINALLY working on putting the interior back in Rosie. There are a couple of things that I can't remember what they are from or where they go. Any of you guys that can help out I'd appreciate it. The pics are posted below.

#1) I am trying to figure out what some of this wiring goes to. I pulled out all the sound equipment to save weight and I'm thinking that the big harness went to the rear speakers and the amp in the storage bin area. There are five wires in the connector. Two reds two greens and a black with blue stripe. I'm trying to make sure that I'm not forgetting to plug something in. Is this connector for the stereo?

The black and red bullet connectors have me stumped too. I was thinking that they went to something around the ash tray, but I can't find it.....

#2) I have this little bracket left over and I can't remember where on earth it goes. I thought that it held in the center console, but I don't see where it is supposed to go... It is curved like it fits over the transmission tunnel but I'm stumped. It has been too long since I took it out. Where does this bracket go?

Thanks in advance y'all!
Jamie

Time to dig out the wiring diagram. It can be found in the link in my sig line to the FSMs. The bracket pictured is not the main bracket that bolts to the tranny tunnel to hold the lower pat of the console. That bracket is wider and has 3 bolt holes. I removed an S3 dash last night and do not see that bracket in any of the parts or on the dash, sorry, can't help with that one.

That bracket I beleive is part of the support in the center console surrond area.

Those bullet connectors are what everyone gets into trouble with believing that they plug into something. If I remember they are for automatic equiped vehicles and do not apply to you.

As far as the rest goes do as trochoid states and look thru the FSM.

I am in the middle of doing the same thing on my Se. I have changed the color of the dash and I am reinstalling it. There are a few connectors that I just can't place so I printed out the wiring diagram and it's time to track her down.

Okay, thanks for the advice so far fellas. I was able to make a little bit of progress with the FSM. Here is what I discovered...

I found my electrical connector. It is X-11 and is labeled as a "common connector." It says that it connects to the handbrake harness though??? The bigger 10 pin connector on the left is the one that goes to the handbrake wiring. It can also be seen in my picture. I don't have any wires left over from the e-brake. So what is this thing for? I found it in the FSM but I still don't get it...

This is just a thought and I may be wrong here, but... My car has manual windows. Didn't the 83's with power windows have the switches mounted in the center console? Is this harness meant to be used with the power windows that my car does not have? This is the only thing that I can figure would be running to the center console. And since I don't have power windows is makes a perfect explanation.

There is also a red bullet connector that plugs into the cig lighter. I believe the ground is also black and a bullet. Might be a spade though.

Yeah, you are right. I've got the wiring for the cig lighter located already. It is a red bullet and a black spade. So I am thinking that RX7Doctor is right about the red and black bullet connectors. I think they are for the illumination on the auto tranny shifter trim. I'm gonna try and confirm it with the wiring diagrams still though...

You got it. Black/Blue comes from the igninion switch. Green and red wires are right PW switch. Green/red and Red/green are left PW.

Big plug is stereo and power ant.

Look at the PW wiring in section I of the wiring diagram.

So the big 10 plug connector is for the stereo? Does the e-brake also connect into that same harness?

Sorry, I was wrong. The 10 terminal plug is not for the stereo. It connects lots of different things. Most of which would only be found on a GSL or GSLSE.

Blue/green-Power ant. switch to PA relay
Brown/white- Seat belt switch
Brown -Seat belt switch (other side)
Black/green- Rear wiper
Blue-Rear washer
Black/red-Parking Brake switch
Brown- Main cruise to clutch and brake switch
Brown/black-Main cruise switch
Black-Ground

So basically the 4 terminal plug AND the 10 terminal plug contain a bunch of wiring for options that my car doesn't have. Any idea what the bracket goes to?

Bracket appears to be the one that hooks the frontmost part of the lower dash to the floor/trans bump. The shifter surround part, where it curves around and the center console "meets" it. I know there are 2 screws that go into the side of that piece and mount it solid.

No, it's not that one. I just finished putting it in. Check the VERY first pic that I posted. You can see it already in place underneath the sheet metal of the dash. There is a 10mm gold colored bolt holding it in with a giant washer on it. There are also two 10mm bolts that hold it to the tranny tunnel. The bracket in question is a different one...

Hmmm, not sure. I will look around in my car and see if there are any areas that that bracket may work on. I am assuming it is rather small, like about the size of a hand.

I don't have a 83 to take a picture from right now but the area the bracket belongs in is indicated by the picture from my Se. It's a support for the lower trim assembly.
