Quick Question.

my buddy's got a 1984 rx7, and i've got a '81.
he just bought a brand new ricer car, and he's giving me away parts.
he works at a car recycling ware house so he's going to crush the car for "Scrap"
but before he does that, he says that I can have w/e for FREE.

im pretty sure its stock, but it may of a few mods.
what should I look for when I go to get parts off it?
or is everything pretty much similar?

(btw my rx7 is in good shape, so pedals steering wheel, that is not an accet.)
but like electronic fans? AC? stuff like that.

thanks ahead of time guys.

Use mazdatrix's website for comparison of years.

Go read the "you know you're a first gen owner when" thread and to maintain your integrity when calling yourself a first gen owner you should just offer him whatever he is capable of getting for scrap and store the car in your front yard

On a serious note, I would probably take the tires, any interior pieces you need, any pieces you need from the exhaust (both my cars have exhaust leaks) Check your car for the little things. Is your dome light ok? what about your shift boot etc.... some of these little things can be hard to find in good condition in a junk yard.

ahahahahahah, thanks Roto.
Yeah im not sure what too look for.

do you guys think it would be possible to rob an electric window system from a car at the junkyard, or somewhere, and install it in my first gen rex?
im lazy and rolling down the window is so hurtin, JK
but seriously, think its possible?

lol yeah i would too,
its gonna need alot of work though?
and i'd need a place to store it...?
in my back yard.

his buddy already took the brake rotors and the exhaust.
the tires are gone, he put them on his other car.
ahahaha, anything mechinically better on the 84 over the 81?

Front and rear suspension, in case you plan on doing future brake upgrades or to sell off. Exterior body parts that are bolt ons, in case of a future incident.

For the eletric window swap, don't forget the wire harness's in the doors.

just take it and store it in your back yard. dont let the car go to waste. if i were closer, i'd come take the whole car minus what you'd take.

Good call, I was gonna say grab the whole kit-n-caboodle! Never know what you might need sometime, glass, seats, etc. If the motor is still in it that's great too, even if its not running.

Yeh im going to try, after the restoration of my 80rx7.
and yeah it has the motor in it, a 12a in a 84 rx7.
so im pretty happy with my find.

84rx7 for free,
needs ALOT of work. But I could always use the spare parts.

I'd probably take the motor, blow or not, to break down and learn about the internals.

Basically, if it wasn't frame or body panels, I'd probably strip it from the car and take it home because you just never know.

The wife just "loves" that mindset.

Good call. He obviously doesn't know what he had if he was just going to crush it. Someone can always use something off an FB
