my fan clutch just went out and my car is overheating. I must make a 2 hour trip tomorrow. Any quick fix for a fan clutch until i can get a hold of a new one or an electric fan? thanks

 

if it's all highway, you don't need a fan... i drove WT for 7 months without ever having to turn the fan on except for at the drag strip and waiting a long time at drive-throughs (like over 6-8 minutes).

 

never mind about the fan clutch it is just a little loose i checked it again But i was thinking it could be the water pump or thermostat or a clog in the radiator. so i ran the engine with the radiato cap off (and the radiator cool of course), and i saw no flow. i even stuck my finger in and felt no flow at all! Water pump? clog in radiator? stuck thermostat? How do i check for these things?

 

Help. I'm desperate man. I don't want to ride around college campus in my mom's pink Toyota Tercel.

 

No flow would most likely indicated that the water pump might be gone. But check that you do not have air in the coolant lines.

Warm the car up and then flip on the heater. Getting any heat? If not, you have air in the lines. Make sure you get all the air out (if this is the case ) and then you should see some coolant flow in the rad...

Just something else to think about...

 

You won't have any flow until the car warms up and the thermostat opens. let it warm up. Bleed the pressure off of the cap and check to see if coolant is moving. If you overheated it, it could have damaged the thermostat.
You can get a waterpump and thermostat for about $35 and it should take you less than 30 min to put it in. I would go ahead and do that if their are no obvious sighns of something wrong. Don't forget gaskets.
Is your belt around the water pump sliping? If it slips it wont turn the pump and coolant won't flow.

i get plenty of heat. Can i trust a $26 waterpump from checker auto? Will it keep up with my 7600 rpm redline. maybe i should underdrive it. Can i get some oversized pulley from a junkyard or do i have to spend the $ for a underdrive pullry from racingbeat or bonez or somewhere? thanks guys

 

That water pump should be fine. Your lower radiator hose will collapse before the water pump will fail. Don't worry about underdriving it. I have a cheap water pump on my 12a. I shift at 8k RPM on a regular basis.
