Question about this starter wire

Starting a ‘79 SA project, starter is barely working so pulled it off. This wire was attached to the second stud across from the one that the main 12v cable is attached to. It was broken, can I fix this with normal wire or is it a fusible link? Cant recall ever seeing anything like this before.

That is a fusible link.

That wire only controls the Hot Start Assist function. If your car doesn't have the hot start motor, you don't need that fusible link.
