A quest for an over-rev solution

The more I autocross my S2 the more I realize I need something to keep my self from over-revving the car. At many times I was able to glance down and see I was pushing 8K, or I'd have to play with the throttle through slaloms. Ideally I'd like a rev-limiter, but if thats not affordable then I'd atleast like to hook up a buzzer. How would I go about either of these?

MSD 6al or streetfire but you'll need like 3 (or 2) boxes

If you are serious about racing, then it might be better to adjust your gear ratio to fit the courses you are running, rather than limiting yourself with a rev limiter. Something as simple as a set of wheels just for racing could fix this for you, either a larger set to keep you in the right rpm range in 2nd gear, or some lower profile tires to let you run in 3rd gear. J

ust a suggestion, and it would probably be cheaper than finding a way to limit the rpms with the bonus of making you faster.

Rev limit on the leading only will work. Only one box needed if trailing is stock and leading is direct fire.

I have MSD 6AL on the leading only, direct fire setup. It doesn't 100% limit the revs as the motor will rev on the trailing only. It'll even run only on trailing albeit extremely poorly. But, you certainly know when it hits the rev limit as there's a huge loss in power plus spit and sputter.

That is strange, albeit the wide body did not have a 6AL it was a 6A with a separate Autometer rev limiter. It has a momentary button that will "test" the rev limit when pushed.

I'm already there man. I'm running 20x8 hoosiers, very low profile

Sounds like a rev limiter would be expensive. How could I go about putting in a buzzer?

what about a tach with rev limiter? I've never had one so I'm not sure how good they work, but autometer does make them.. or you could just put in a shift light

Hook a huge air horn to your over rev buzzer.

I installed a Raptor shift light, and it's a nice addition. It's small, very bright, relatively cheap, and you set the limit with switches instead of the "pills" that some others use.

Lots of good ideas, but I still say you're taking the wrong approach. By seeking a way to limit your rpms, you're basically asking for something to slow you down. If you went the route of slightly taller tires, or a gear change, then you would make your car even faster.

But hey, it is your car after all. Good luck with whatever option you choose...

Once again, does anybody know how to hook up a rev-buzzer? For those who don't know, 82's don't have it.

And Kentesu, I'm not about to change any part of my car to accomedate any paticular track. This last track if I had taller tires there is no way I could have left it in second the entire race, and redlining 2nd was plenty fast down the straight sections. My gear ratios are plenty fine, its just I need a way to keep an eye on them, especially when I come out of corners when I have no traction.

If a buzzer or light is all you desire, you can buy or build rpm switches. Summit sells them for about $50. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-830450/ or build your own: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...diy+rpm+switch

All you need to do is tap into the wire off of the trailing ignition for the tach signal and then connect whatever warning device you wish to the output. Light, buzzer, horn, cattle prod in the seat, etc.

lol cattle prod.

you could wire up an aftermarket tach with shiftlight... should be easier to see depending on where you put it (if you can)

I had one.. but never used it because it was too big and would be in the way
