Project F(d wanna)B

So I thought that I would share a few pictures of the project that I have been working on.

Please keep in mind that these are not the most current. For some reason I can no longer load my pictures from my camera. I will solve this and post some new ones though.

I am pretty confident that I will get about 400rwhp with about 15psi. 450 at higher psi with water/methanol.

Enjoy!

VERY VERY sweet looking, soon im gonna need to swap out the engine in my widebody to make way for WAY more power... If you don't mind my asking, how much do you think the whole swap will end up costing? Also what parts did you select, and do you have any advice for someone else trying to hit the 400 RWHP mark?

Thanks alot, Awesome AWESOME project!!!

I am hoping to keep the swap under 10k. I have to admit that this is really hard though. When it comes down to it performance parts are expensive.

Here is a list of my mods:
Engine:
3rd gen 13b-rew...stock ports.

Fuel:
Modified Primary rail
Aftermarket Secondary rail
850cc primary injectors
1600cc secondary injectors
All AN braided stainless lines with AN fittings
Aeromotive a1000 fuel bump
Rising rate Fuel pressure regulator.

EMS:
Microtech LTX-8
3-bar map sensor(allows for higher boost)
Bosch coils
Laptop adapter software
Full harness

Drivetrain:
ACT 6-puck clutch
ACT Heavy duty pressure plate

Turbo:
AF61(produced approx 420rwhp at 15lbs)
HKS Cast manifold
HKS 40mm WG
Greddy Elbow
Turbonetics Raptor Blow off Valve
K&N Air filter
24"x12"x3" intercooler
Full custom 3" aluminum intercooler piping
Water/Methanol injection(allows for higher boost on pump gas)
Boost controller
Boost Gauge
Silicone couplers with t-bolt clamps

Exhaust:
3" downpipe
1-6" magnaflow muffler

And some other small things that I am sure that I am forgetting. If I did not list something just ask.

If you want advice I would say do your research. There are so many small snags that I ran into and this is with tons of research. But up until about 2 months ago this swap was not very well documented. I have seen dyno graphs of my turbo(af61) that claim 420 at 15psi.

No fans will be set between the rad and IC. Not to mention on the engine side of the radiator.

There is about 2" between the IC and the rad.

Other people have also used this setup as well.

Nice - I like the polished look. The Turbo looks like a nice size too.
I would disregard the methanol injection until the whole project is more-or-less running and tuned. If you never have been in a Turbo FB, you will see that 400rwhp is ALOT for an FB to begin with. Even 300whp is a handful without the right tires.

Yes, many many hours went into polishing the engine. And the turbo is about the size of my head.

Yes directfreak you are correct. The car will be taken one step at a time. I am going to run at low boost 10-12psi to start. Once I get that up and running then water methanol injection will be installed. Less components at the initial start up means less chance for error.

Drivetrain will be addressed next winter if not sooner. I plan a ford 8.8" with drag radials, blah blah blah.

I have always driven fairly high horsepwer cars and to tell you the truth I know that I will be scared shitless when this is complete. It is on a total different playing field.

Thanks to all the others for the nice comments.

Well get on it!!!

Just a little useless information...I am have heard contradicting posts on getting creep etc with this WG and manifold setup. I looked over a thread and it seemed that some did and some did not. So we will see if I have any problems. Just thought that you turbo swap folks would like to know.

Gregs, yes I did see that ABF was back on...good for it.

Yes that is my plan. I have been working on this car for about 8 months now though. Yes I know that I am slow. So God willing I will be there.

I think that I have fully decided to go v-mount. I will post some new pics in the next week or two. I will have to wait for a new rad before I can get started.

Hahaha, end! No this project is still going. I am in the middle of all the work right now.

There have been plenty of threads lately that discuss a 13b-rew swap. Now that I have said that let me say something else. Don't go 3rd gen. Get a cosmo. The swap is way easier because there are a few parts that you will need such as CAS that already come on the engine. However IMO the rew UIM looks a lot cleaner.

That is a good price for all that. Are you sure that it has good compression?
