Update...

Ok guys/gals,

I have been really busy lately which equates to not being able to really work on the 7 all that much.

I thought that I would post some pictures of my progress so far though.

The Intercooler is so large that it had to be placed as more of an h-mount.

Enjoy,
Z

Quick question, is there a reason why you decided on going for the 13B-REW rather then the TII motor? Which route do you think would be cheaper and more reliable in the long run?

I can't wait till I can get my motor project started, I need some big numbers for the widebody!

The reason that I went with the REW was for slightly bigger stock ports, better looking UIM, Twin setup, adn I got a pretty good deal on the entire front clip.

Since then I have decided not to use much of the stock ports. If I were to do it again I would go with a RE block. The engine comes with a few more things that cater towards the swap.

I personally like the look of the FD UIM better though. And I figured that there was a little more aftermarket support for the FD engine.

As for price the FD engine is by no means cheap. I figure that I have near 12-15k in parts. And this is only including the engine upgrades. No suspension etc. Also I got many of the parts new used. This saved a bunch of money.

When building the engine you need to take a lot of factors into account. If you want a durable rotary then you can't really go with high hp. But if you were to create a setup that was "dependable" I would go with something like mine or directfreak's setup. Pretty much over size the hell out of everything. If you think that it is too big you are wrong

Ie large injectors, high flowing fuel pump, large turbo on low boost, large radiator, intercooler...the list goes on and on. Also get quality parts. With my setup the injectors will be on a low duty cycle, the pump will not be working on full capacity, and the turbo will not have to be working very hard.

If I had to do the setup again I would probably get a custom engine built with low compression internals get a custom tubular SS manifold, larger wastegate, custom UIM. Other than that I would keep it the same.

Ha, yes I did pick up the bracket material at lowes. It worked out great and should be more than enough support for my situation.

Adrian, I still have the square stock which I plan to use for the radiator mounts. I will make sure to post some pictures when I am done.

Right now I am waiting for a estimate on a custom 3-row aluminum radiator.

I spent about 7 hours on the hood last night and got the vents all in the correct place. It is going to take a bit of time since the metal is so thin and it likes to warp/ burn through. Slow is the name of the game here. I figure that with another 10-15hrs of work it should be done.

Adrian, nice try. However I can pull dimensions off my hood for you. I took a lot of careful measuring so that the vents drop directly over the IC. Functionality is more important than looks. But if you can have both why not!

Ok, I have been working on the gauge pod that will hold the Boost gauge. Gauge is a Autometer Procomp 2 5/8" liquid filled. Proved to be a tight fit.

Pod is completely custom, nor is if fully complete. I still have a little painting to do. I plan on making a fully fiberglass pod in the the future.

Pity the late model doesn't have the round S2 type air vents. They're practically made for a 2 5/8" gauge.

Lookin good though.

Ok got a lot done yesterday. Here are a few pictures of the most interest stuff.

The radiator is custom 17"x13", 3 row, best radiator core on the market.

Exhaust is 3" that goes to 3.5" sprint car silencer and then to a 3.5" magnaflow race muffler, and heat wrapped.

And then the engine bay, that is pretty much where it sets as of now. I still have a couple of small things to do, ie boost lines to run.

Enjoy,
Z

Z just letting you know first hand that I might be copying you with that setup of the IC. Im also in the process of building a FB, im in the parts collecting stage now...I just ordered my IC and the dimensions are 24x12x4. So if I decide not to get too crazy with the cutting wheel I might just go with your setup. Could you PM me the info on that radiator ie...size, where you got it etc...
Thanks.

Pretty much. Here is a quick sketch of my setup.

The Radiator is set at about a 40 degreeangle. The OC mounts to the front of the radiator support. It is set so that the oc does not block the radiator flow.

This setup is very efficient when moving, however when the car is sitting(ie in traffic) it is not the best. I have a 1800CFM fan that sits on top of the radiator.

I wish that I could get a good picture for you but everything is so tight in there that it is hard to even just get a picture.
