Hi All,
Long time no post. I own a 1980 Rx-7 AE. I’m also a bit of a collector of auto brochures. While I’ve never found a brochure for the 1980 AE lineup, I did find this press kit on eBay. I think it’s cool and I’m going to frame the photo as well as some vintage rotary and REPU brochure stuff.
That's a very cool piece of documentation. Your car is also special, one of the best 10the A/E specimens I've saw, definitely worth hanging on to. I did recently run across a very nice 10th A/E 626 for sale. Maybe you should seek out a complete set?
It would be nice to uncover more specific info on the exact breakdown of how many examples of each model were produced.
I have a couple similar photos for the 79 Limited. One also has the TKK designation on it like yours. Sadly, no accompanying letter or info to go with them.
Just some additional info, if you can find a copy of Mazda Parts Bulletin # T - 3 - 6, page 6 & 7 will list the P/N's for the "unique" Rx-7 10th A/E parts. I only have a picture of the first page, which shows the 79 Limited unique P/N's, but the whole document lists the other cars and their P/N's. The special B pillar badges are for whatever reason, already shown in the regular parts fische diagram. Maybe if someone on here has the full bulletin, they can post the whole thing up.
Thanks for posting the old sales add. Don't remember seeing it before but I'm sure it was in all sorts of old magazines at the time. Neat seeing a 626 with waffles!
You're welcome!
I have a mystery for the 1980 AE cars.
I've read in two different Mazda books that our interior was from a 1980 rx7 60th
anniversary of Toyo Kogyo edition.
I've seen one picture many years ago I think it was even a black and white pic. Would be cool to see if any survived.
Would a 60th anniversary, Toyo Kogyo edition be a JDM release? Would be interesting to find out more details about them. I know JPN had some special models we never got. The Spring and Summer shots editions :
( https://japanesenostalgiccar.com/maz...mobile-museum/ ) and a 25 vehicle, Finale Edition series in 85.
There was also at least one Special edition released in Europe as well. In 1980, TWR (Tom Walkenshaw Racing), collaborated with the factory to release a limited run of special model Rx-7's and 626's. Interestingly, at least some of these Rx-7's got the same grey / blue interior as the North American 79 Limited model.
