Is the presilencer necessary?

Sorry, I tried the search but got confused. I was just about to place an order with RacingBeat and was wondering if this component was really necessary in a part-time only street driven car (headers and RB muffler). Could save a few pounds too.

I can weld up my own connecting pipe and would like to keep the exhaust system simple. I was just wondering if the Presilencer made all that much a difference. I obviously don't want the sound police chasing me around, but I'm only going to using this car for pleasure.

YES, rotaries are like super OBNOXIOUSLY LOUD.

When I bought my car it had a 3" pipe from the headers back... It was soo annoying I couldn't stand it. and its not like a cool loud like a Mac exhaust on a CB or Kerkers. Its a pinging rattttatttaa loud. It sucks.

At anyrate I'm currently running a glasspack and a flowmaster with RB headers, and I still think my car is a bit on the loud side (but its just about right).

It would be very loud.....

but personal preference prevails, loud to some is just right to others.

I would advise using the presilencers if you dont want attention from the police.

I'm running a custom 2.5" system off an RB streetport header with a magnaflow strait through as a presilecer and a big magnawlow dual tip as a main and it's loud, I've ran with a strait pipe to a stock muffler and THAT was pretty loud on mostly stock exhaust. Remember loud WILL attract negative attention and not just from the police but, neighbors will be unhappy too.

The presilencer is a significant percentage of the quietness. Maybe half or more.

The closer a muffler is to the engine, the more noise it removes. It also kills droning since that is created by sound waves reflecting back and forth in the exhaust pipe, so quieting the exhaust before it gets to the pipe means less sound bouncing around in there.

I do have the full long-primary system. It's almost as quiet as a stock exhaust system.

I have a racing beat header and stock muffler. Tinny but not too loud to me.

i had racing beat headers modded for 2.5" out and a straight 2.5" pipe to a racing beat muffler. was pretty quiet, sounded nice tho.

what one person thinks is loud, another may not. the presilencer does reduce noise and also deepens the tone. i do have the complete streetport system RB sells but have since removed the presilencers cause i did want it alittle louder. i have 2 vids on youtube. first one is with the complete system on the car. second one is in-car without the presilencers.

I must be tame compared to you because I almost NEVER hit the Rev warning buzzer. With the stock system it's a lot harder to get the rotary to climb up that high so quickly in gear.

I like the sound without the presilencer, but my neighbors may not. I'm in suburbia, so I have to be a good neighbor.

As I put together my shopping list on the RacingBeat website, why am I not seeing the Air Control cover plate for my '85 12A? I used one of these on my 6-port. Why none for the 12A?
