PreMix Oil - too many choices!?
PreMix Oil - too many choices!?
Rotorfolks-
with thanks to those who chimed in about Mix/Ratio - the next prob, if it even IS a problem:
What type/brand on 2 stroke premix??
Went to a Cycle shop (Yamaha) and they had:
-watersport (jetski) mix
-outboard mix
-Synth bike mix
-non-synth bike mix
Prices varied from $7-18 per quart.
Assuming synth is generally NOT what we want in the combustion chamber (not trying to start a Synthetic Oil thread here...), does it really matter WHAT 2-stroke oil.
Someone mentioned it should be "TC-W3" spec. Well, of 7 versions I saw, ONE was: but $17!!
Am I overthinking this??
Thanks

I was just wondering about what 2 stroke to use. Theres so many to choose from. Ive got 2 stroke injection and was thinking maybe some oil is to thick and won't run down the tube fast enough. Theres a AMS distributor down the street and i was thiking about running AMS. Idk what to run and what grade to run really theres just to many damn options!

I used Repsol mineral based 2-stroke oil in my FC for years with no problems. 1oz per 1 gallon of gas.

ive used a bunch of different brands in TCW3, if there is a difference, or a problem i dont know about it...
i'd think synthetic would be a bad idea too.
here i think they are selling it for jetskis? its available at any autoparts store 7/11

I use Valvoline Multi-Purpose. It's the only stuff I can find locally that's sold in gallon jugs.
Something I've been wondering about: I get that the "snowmobile" version is probably a lighter oil, but what's the difference between the "multi-purpose" and "marine" TC-W3?

Oh, by the way, specifically avoiding synthetic 2-cycle oil is just silly. The synthetic debate started in the first place because some early synthetic 4-cycle engine oils did not burn cleanly when injected into a combustion chamber. But remember, all 2-cycle oil is designed to be injected and burned! That's kind of the whole point of 2-cycle oils. There's nothing special about rotaries in this regard - they're the same as any other oil-injected engine, except that we use a leaner gas-to-oil ratio than most.
I've always used Castol 2 stroke oil. It's cheap, widely available, and blue in color.
1oz/gallon is too much for street stuff and the tailpipe smells terrible w/o a cat.. Try half that.

The car that I pre-mix is my autocross only race car. My street car still has the OMP.....
Pain - I have a big can of MMO here, but their web site suggests (for 2 stroke engines) to
ONLY SUBSTITUTE 25% of OIL FOR MMO,
ie 25% MMO + 75% regular 2 stroke , which seems to suggest MMO alone is NOT recommended by The marvel folks to sub for 2-stroke oil....?
