Question Power steering on SE

I bought a GSL-SE and I though all SE were power steering but this one is not. Now my question is, can I install a power steering system from another SE to mine? If possible, how hard it is and is it worth it? Had any one tried this before? Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Luism12lm

was only an option.

i think you'd need the pump and assuciated lines, as well as a new steering box.

It was standard equipment on the Se's in the US. I have only heard of Canadian models that some did not come with P/S.

The GSL was the model where it was an option.

Luism12lm, Does it look like there are lines run back into the steering box?

My SE doesn't have power steering either.

I would leave it off, the 1st gen's power steering sucks. Just get a better steering wheel and all will be well.

Power steering is great. If your a race car driver needing every hp then its a problem. Its great to have.

The “steering gear” of a SE power steering system and the “steering gear” of a non-power steering SE, are they the same? Both “steering gears” look the same in the Mazda RX-7 1984 Workshop Manual.

Some of the US spec SE's had power steering and some didn't. It was an option here also.

I have never seen a US non-P/S supplied model. I have seen alot of the pumps removed but still had the P/S Gear boxes in place.

luism12lm. The steering boxes are different.
Can you post up a picture of the box on your car? Thats all I need is view from the top, not the bottom.

My US 85 SE is manual steering.

I don't think horsepower is the only reason racers like manual steering. It helps them know when the front end is losing traction by getting too light more quickly than power steering can.
