Power Steering

Hi friends...
I have an 85 RX7 GSL-SE and it does not have power steering. I was wondering if there were models that did have power steering so if i could go to a junkyard and pull one out, or would i have to install it, or i am just at a loss. I mean it isnt that big of a deal, but it kinda sux playin tug o war with tha steering wheel sometimes, thanks alot for any info!

Power assisted steering was available as a option on 1984-85 GSL and GSL-SE.

You will need the power steering pump, hoses, idler pulley, brackets, Steering box/column, AC mt. bracking and AC hoses (maybe)

Honestly, if you think turing a Rx-7 steering wheel is tough, you need to spend a little time at the GYM.

lol, not really,
There are just some things that are nicer to have.
Id like to see a vote on who would rather have powersteering to no powersteering.
Me personally powersteering is a nice thing to have.

Beh.... power steering ads weight.

I can still manage to steer with one hand most of the time, and it handles well, so I don't miss it.

LOL, I got you to laugh....

I can see adding power steering if:
- you are running 16" wheels or bigger.
- are a girl
- like to make your engine bay more cluttered
-add 45lbs to a already nose heavy car.
- wish i had a 2nd gen Rx-7

Let me know if you need the parts, I have a bead on a '84 GSL with PS, but will not get down to see it till next week.

Just chiming in on the "to hell with power steering" front. Someone already said the kind of stuff you need to add to the car so I don't really need to repeat it.

Actually have a GSL parts car with power steering... but I doubt that it would be cost efficient to ship all that crap.

you really can't tell that much difference between having and not having powersteering in a first gen. I know its nice to have but its really not worth purchasing if you don't already have it. Mine has ps so I'm not going to take it off until it craps out on me but I don't see myself replacing it.

You can have mine! Just come and take it off my car, give me your manual rack, and call it good.

I, personally, am glad that mine did not come with power steering. I love the feeling of the car without it. I see absolutely no reason to add it.

You will also need the steering column, since it is different from the Non-PS unit. I am adding the PS unit without the pump so I can use the quicker ratio for my autocross car.

Right now, mine is making alot of noise. I'm wondering if I'm getting some air in the line somewhere. ultimately in the end when it finally craps out on me, I'll just run the hoses into each other and ditch the pump. Damn thing gets in the way when I try to change plugs anyway.

Yeah there's already enough stuff in front of the 12a's spark plugs, thank god I don't got power steering. I think it's just a hassle, the only car I had that I didn't have to worry about the power steering was the 240.
