Since rotarys dont have camshafts like boinger engines, the intake and exhuast timing(things like overlap, duration and opening and closing) is controled by the shape and size of the ports as the rotor turns past them. Porting a engine can increase anywhere from 35hp with a big streetport, to 150 hp with a race port.

I think those numbers are a little screwy, a mild port (street) providing 200hp???

did I miss something?

When i was looking at porting, a large streetport was going to give me approx 130 - 150.

cheers'

It depends on the port characteristics, and the intake/exhaust configuration!

200+hp is entirely possible from a street port given the proper intake/exhaust and port shapes and sizes.

Of, you could do something mild and put all the stock parts back on it and not see ANY performance gain.

Basically, you could define a "street port" as any side port up to bridge.

Unless you have very, very good knowledge in the dissassmbly and reassembly of a rotary engine and it's dozens of little "seals, springs, and what-not", DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS. You have to take the engine apart to port it.

Even experienced builders sometimes screw up on porting. If you really want it, spend the money (it's not cheap either) and have it professionally done.

Otherwise you will have a some Really cool bookends.
(I have 2 13B Rotor housings as bookends for all my manuals and catalogs from my useless "organ donor" engine.)

the actual cost of a porting job is usually around 150-350 bucks, but that's if the motor is apart during a rebuild. most shops charge around 700 dollars labor to crack open a motor, so a rough estimate for just porting the motor (not including removing the engine from the car / reinstalling it) is about 1000 -- 1100.

Have fun

Parts, Seal Kits, gaskets... = $$$$

Mo' Money!, Mo' Money!, Mo' Money!

A Streetport only adds about 10% HP to your current setup. A bridge port is more power, but realiabilty/idle is compromised, I have no experience with the half-bridge though.

Do the math, wait till your engine NEEDS a rebuild before doing it.

There's really no point to porting an engine with stock intake/exhaust. I pretty much proved that last year with my '80 When I started drag racing it I found that my street port had NO more power than stock! (first passes were 16.8/16.9!) I never did make much more than 130-140hp which frankly is pathetic for a ported engine, a stock port engine can make more power than that!
