hello, newbie here. just got a 85 gsl-se rx7. and have a few questions. #1- whats the switch in the center console that says front, rear, left, and right? what is it used for? #2- how would i go about removing the passenger side door panel? window is off track and needs to be realigned. #3- where would be a good place to find parts? #4- since i just got this car, what would be some things that defiinitely need to be checked or changed? please help! thank you!

#1- i dunno... #2 remove the interior handle, and window handle, (if equipped) the retaining screws in the armrest area, the panel will pop off when you lift it. #3
i like junkyards and the for sale section of this forum. #4- everything you can think of, oil, tranny fluid, brakes (important!), clutch fluid, belts (there is a schedual in the manual.)

last but not least....

GET A FSM OR HAYNES MANUAL! the FAQ section here has a ton of info as well.

good luck. hope it helps

Welcome to the forum, you'll find there are a lot of people who are very knowledgeable and willing to help you (just remember to use the search button).

Here are my $0.02

#1 it's a control for the factory stereo (sort off a combination fader balance control)

#2 I'm pretty sure it's in my Haynes manual I'll look it up when I get home

#3 Junkyards for used parts and blackdragon, mazdatrix and rockauto for new parts

#4 Do a full tune up on it (all fluids, check brakes, plugs wires cap and rotor, belts etc) and do get a Hayne's manual or a FSM (you can find the FSM for 1985 on www.foxed.ca)

good luck and hope this helps

That front switch is probably for the speaker balance, if I remember correctly the GSL-SE's came with a premium sound system...

I might be wrong though, I don't have that much experience with the GSL-SE's

#2 removing the door panels---that's extremely easy i just did this 2 days ago :P, there are 6 screws to take out, all phillips, one is on the door handle, at the top of it you'll see a little square looking thing, that can pop off and you'll find a screw, 2) is underneath that armrest there's another little square that'll pop off. 3&4) they're located at plain view on the left and right side of the door near the end, you can't miss them (btw, when putting these back, be very careful not to over tighten these because the round plastic washer it's old and brittle, and it looks a bit better with it on, personal experience). 5) is on the actual door latch, can't miss it :P 6) is inside the little cupboard/handle on the armrest....that should be it, other than that the panel has little locks around it that will just pop off when you pull on the edges :P be careful in case some of them are fragile tho, you don't wanna rip them off.

if your joystick control is loose like mine was it'll move around with every vibration so just unplug it if you want to just pop it off and unplugg the wire that goes to it and no more problems :P
