Pics of the engine.
The RX-2/3/4/5 were not called that in Japan... they had other names. They were called RX's in all export markets though. The RX-7 was the first (and only) rotary powered car to carry an RX name in the home market.
RX-2 was the Capella, RX-3 was the Savanna, RX-4 was the Luce, the RX-5 was the Cosmo, and was also known in the US as the Cosmo. The REPU, which was a US-only model, would have otherwise been the RX-6.
If any model was "experimental" it would have been the 110S Cosmo. The later models were anything but experiments.

ok i'm not following something here. the rotary engine is praise for its hp/weight ratio being almost comparable to a 2-stroke. so technically the if the rotary is the same wright roughly as the 302, the rotary should be able to put out more ponies, right? otherwise why are we bothering with this rotary **** if one of its main advantages is null and void?
The rotary DID have good power-weight in the 70's... remember that's when smog regulations had big-blocks lucky to make 180hp and small-blocks lucky to make 130hp. Modern engines are much better.
well its the thought of the whole thing. most people get into 7's for the rotary. they want to promote it and make it top notch. its like buying a 911 and dumping its flat 6 in favor of a 302. i know thats a bad example. but you should know that you don't come onto what is basically a rotary forum and start throwing around piston engine swaps, domestic on top of it. you don't show up to a black convention and start chatting about how your kkk.
um, last time i checked this is the RX-7 Forum, not the rotary gestapo forum. People can do whatever the hell they like with their cars.... personally i don't like it when people put 13B's in 12A cars. So what? Ain't my car.

PISTONS SUCK ***!!! How else can you put it. YEs we all now the 7 has those great sexy lines, and superb handling. But also the rotary! This is the heart and soul of these cars. Basically three moving parts vs. ??? in a piston engine. Yes I know I've prob offended some people, but hey I've had 8 7's, I own 2 now and getting another next month. And yeah a LS-1 or something would blow me away, or a 5.0 in a 7. But to be me that just defeats the purpose of this car. I don't car what advances piston engines have made, wether it be mpg, emmision,hp, whatever...it'll never take the place of a good 'ol rotory. If you want a faster 1st gen, a TII motor is readily avail @ www.corksport.com and from what Ive learned, not too diff to swap in. Just think it over before you might alienate all the other 7's you know. I know NO ONE who give any respect to a piston powered rx7.

Check out www.fc3s.org They even offer a 30 day warranty!
I wouldn't care where it's from...mine's from a donor car. But at least it's another rotory.
I've never bought from corksport either, just the 1st that popped to mind. I was just saying, in leiu of puttin some V-8 or V-6 ;P powerplant in as " the way to get power " as some see it; there are other options...other rotary options. Before these 2 cars I have now, I had a 86 GXL with a weber side draft on it, and a 3" exhaust; not the fastest in the world; but I tore up several 94-98 GT mustangs, eclipses, etc......Just saying stick with the rotor. Otherwise the car loses the character that made it so special.

Here's the thing though.... I know you can get 500+hp from a non-forced induction, non-nitrous, stock displacement 5.0, and still pass emissions. (All they care about there is that the sniffer is happy) Can you do that with a two-rotor engine? And how much will that cost?
Anybody remember these little beauties? As info they are a lot smaller than a first gen, and came from the factory with guess what under the hood? A small block 289 Ford. Sunbeam Tiger, wish I had one.
gee, these don't look like drag cars

Ow... now my drool gland is stuck in overdrive...
That's what it boils down to.... RX-7s are a great chassis, and they look great, and they're common to be found with dead engines. It's a natural.

Actually we don't have emissions any more in JAX
Plus I know a really good 7 mechanic who can port my motor and have back to me by the end of a week for $1000; So it's very feasable for some TII's here in town to start getting near 300hp; no it's not 500 from a V8, but good power is easily avail from a rotary, and done pro realiable as well....How much do those " 500hp " motors cost
I know those crate engines get pretty pricey; I could have 300hp in a TII for about $3000 on top of price of car. and believe me a 300hp 7 would give alot of V-8 boys some serious trouble

300hp is nice but it's nothing compared to 500hp
And you're missing the point - a 500hp 5-liter is more likely to pass emissions than a 500hp rotary. In areas where there is testing, that is very important to think about.
