Painting interior

Okay before you say anything. Yes I did check the search but it mostly came up with finished interiors. And didn't say anything about painting them. Okay I already have black interior that I'm swapping from my 85 to my 81 but its alittle faded so I want to ressurect it make it look somewhat newer. I had read a couple of posts on painting but don't remember them so. Okay I want to paint them black again but I want something that will last along time and that doesn't easily fade. I would really appreciate it for those of you who have painted your interior to post what you used how good it is and how long its lasting (fade factor) Any help is appreciated!!

Thanks

I would say as long as you use a good primer. I used a generic sandable primer and then uses the exact same generic paint. And mine is perfect. NO fading or anything.
I applied 2-3 coats of primer and then 2-3 coats of the paint. Let it dry for a day or two and then put it back in your car. But I would let it dry for long than that just to be safe. That is just my experience with it. But I know there is paint out there that cost a bunch of money that is just for interior car use. Never used it before, but my friends have (they can't paint) and it turned out horrible. So as long as you take you time, any paint should turn out well. Good luck.

Search again there are several products people have commented on. I've used Molecubond (in an airplane) which is now available through retail channels as well. The most important point is to use a product which actually bonds to the surface and not just a surface paint which can scratch chip or flake off. It's also important to follow the directions and clean and prepare the surface properly before applying the dye.

Try this..there's a lot of material out in the database, just use the "search" button and type in a few key words to access it...

For the vinyl painting...

I went to an auto paint store and got SEM plastic dye. That stuff is incredible, penetrates and won't come off. I've had it in my interior for 8 months now, no sign of fade or anything.
Be SURE to follow directions completely, that's the key. Take your time and use several thin coats, you'll be blown away with the results. Prep and proper temp is the most important.
Good Luck!

That would be your 1st clue as to why your search on "Paint" didn't come up with much.... search on DYE - much better results

Can I quote you on this in another year or two when you're tired of hearing the same questions over and over again?

How about don't read the post when the title/subject dosen't interest you, stupid *****.
Granted this question was better suited for another forum, but why have a forum if people can't ask questions
And if you know everything, why do you keep coming back to this forum?
I think it's pretty rude to refer people to a search when you could just as easliy give them your input or just ignore them.

tone down the hostility, buddy.

Answering specifics (SEM dye, online retailers for it, etc.) is not necessarily common knowledge.

We don't know everything, and if you read the posts, nobody told him he was an idiot. You however just called us all stupid *****. I wish you'd reconsider that position and play nicely. Requesting that people search (when they've been here long enough to know better) isn't rude.

It helps turn out polite people who are valuable to the community.

So take a breather, relax and don't call us stupid ***** anymore. K? Thanks.

No one was rude to him and both of our posts gave some input in addition to suggesting there was more information available in the database.

I made recommendations, including a product reference, and advised him to search further. The other person's response suggested he search further and provided a link to another thread.

On the other hand, your comments did not add any information and simply called us "stupid *****". You may not consider that rude, but most people would find it fairly offensive.
