how to dye interior

I have the infamous maroon interior; the door panels, shift ****, and e-brake have all faded to brown.
I searched for the thread on how to dye them back but can't find it. Can some member give me the tutorial or post the link?

you can use vinal dye. but it would be a lot easyer just to go to a junk yard and find a car with black or gray and get that swap it in.

just my $0.02

Do you mean Burgandy? I know my SE has the burgandy interior and also has contrasting brown tones. The shift ****, parts of the door panels, and e-brake handle are supposed to be that brownish color. I don't know if that's the case with you rmodel but I thought I should mention it before you assume you have a faded interior

Mine is maroon too. And I love it, however, some spots are brown like yours. I've yet to visit a junk yard and see what's around.

Anyone wanna give up their maroon interior? Window switches? Seats? Hatch carpet? hahaha

Joe,

It's called SEM spray vinyl/leather dye. Follow the directions. It is almost impossible to get a good dye job on cloth panels however. The shorter the nap of the cloth, the better. Plush carpet just doesn't hold up. The plastic/vinyl pieces will.

The interior of this car (I got multiple parts from you) was grey.

an automotive detailing supply center is your best bet,

they have carpet dye and vinyl dye.

its pretty expensive, I think somewhere around $10.00 to $30.00 a can, but its the only stuff i have seen sprayed on a brand new 2003 gm dash that was light brown to cover up a blemish and you couldnt even tell it was sprayed there.

not to mention it dried by the time it was done being sprayed and you couldnt wipe it off, even with harsh cleaners, I know cause at first was sprayed the wrong color cause the can had the wrong cap on it.

I used to work at a detailing shop, I was a 12 volt tech but I still learned alot of tricks from the detailers.

I 2nd the SEM, it's incredible stuff.
I have a brown interior (faded, I'm dyeing the dash, rear plastics, and vinyl sections of the doors 'Coffee Mocha'. Looks great IMO, leaving some brown, like on the cloth sections on the doors looks good and adds contrast.

Go to the Canadian forum and look up the thread "new girl in the club."
Jolean just restored her '83 and turned her brown interior black using a dye called Vinylcote. Sez you can't tell the difference from before and posted a phone # and website for the supplier. Hope this helps.

NOT SEMA, but SEM Vinyl and Plastic Dye. You can do another search and find it, but it should be at any good auto paint store.

I wrote the guy an E-mail and he said 125.00 unlimited amounte of pieces, www.autoaccessorystore.com. I haven't decided if i wanted it yet but, sound like a nice deal.

Car Craft used the stuff when it first came out and revisited the subject a year later. They claimed it hadn't worn and did not crack. That's when I was sold. SEM claims its a "molecular bond" product. I don't know about all that, but it has been two and a half years since I did the seats for my '80. The car is a junker in my driveway now, but we recently pulled the seats to go in the '83 I got to replace my poor '80. They look great, even now...and a direct comparison to a regular auto paint over "flexible" primer can be seen in the headrest, clearly showing the superiority of the SEM stuff...
