Paint......the final frontier...:D
Well, I thought I would throw this out for my fellow FB brothers....
It is very well known that painting a car is one of the hardest and expensive mods/maintenance jobs to do. I have been really looking into painting my FB but the cost and/or demand of resources makes it tough.
I plan to try the method below.........

Let me know what you all think or if you have done this please post some info for all of us....
Thanks

Well, then, you touch it back up. Go out with a little sand paper and steel wool, some Rustolium and your're done.
You think the hardware stores or whatever they're called in 2012 won't have Rustolium?
If there's a better paint, I'd probably still use Rustolium if I want something to last.

I think that this method is very good if you don't have access to a place to paint your vehicle with a proper gun.
If you do, however, the extra expense of automotive paint and primer vs the Tremclad/Rustoleum is worth it, if only for longevity.

Terrified.
I wouldn't trust myself with the rustoleum method. I am far from the greatest when it comes to anything cosmetic.
Good thing I know someone who does great body/paint work locally, though.

bump for updates
ive been doing some research. i think this would be the best paint to use:
http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=130
comes in many different colors and appears to be made to be tough. says it wont fade in the elements. im thinking the safety blue for my light blue 85 GSL. i like the hunter green, regal red, flat black, gloss black, smoke grey, etc. this comes in great colors. now i just need to decide which one to use.
i hope to get my car painted before the summer is over and i start school.

that is a very tedious task for me. i like the old fashion wet floor in garage or driveway with car tent canopy... sand down, primer and wetsand, tape/cover everything, spray 2-3 coats base, 4-5 coats clear and call it a day.

Done and done. 100 US$ paintjob (two-tone), took about 10 weekends 'cause of Oregon weather, but I'll have a write-up finished by Wednesday if anyone's interested. Already have one completed for a WR327 assignment, just have to replace the greyscale images with color ones .

The moparts.com thread that it came from has alot of info. It's been going for a few years now, and most have found that the best paint to use is Brightside. It's a paint for boats and is designed to be applied with a roller, no thinning needed. It's a bit more expensive, but I don't think it'll cost over $100.
The fist picture on this page shows a good example.

i am getting close to starting my paint job. unfortunately ill have to do mine outside due to lack of having a shop or garage if i go with rustoleum ill probably go with flat black or the safety blue. i really need to see some of the safety blue after its been used.
the brightside paint actually have a color called ocean blue, i wonder how close it is to the stock color

after doing some more research, brightside is definately the way to go. bad thing, its not as easy to find as rustoleum. if it comes in a color i like, ill go brightside, if not, ill go flat black rustoleum.

^^ look at the picture on that page of the brightside after it has been wet sanded and buffed.

I found that Rustoleum is about 30 bucks a gallon...whats the price comparison with Brightside? Also does anyone have an estimate on how much it'll take for 2-3 coats? Clearcoat would also be an additional expense...

^^^ That's one of the nice things with this method, no clearcoat is needed. Of course you can still use it if you want to, but I don't think it will add much if any gloss or protection, and if you don't use it, things like scratches are much easier to repair.
