Open to limited slip diff swap?

Hello, I have an 84 rx7 with the open diff. I also have a parts car GSL-SE with a limited slip reared. I have not even looked at them yet as I just got the cars but what will it take to swap the rear ends? Can I use the stock drum rear brakes or the 84? Can I remove the axles and centre section and swap them into the housing like on an old 9" ford? Thanks.

I believe the center section from the GSL-SE will slip right in.

Is your parts car complete? Why not swap the entire rear end as well as front spindles and brakes? You get rear disk and bigger front brakes.

Its a win win!

Yes you can just replace the diffy and use the drum brakes.

Ok thanks guys, don't really want to go through the hassle swapping brakes and dealing with the proportioning valves and everything. Anybody know if the axles are the same on both cars? Hoping to just swap the 3rd members and keep the same set of axles in each car. Thanks again

The axles on the GSL-SE are a little longer. You do know that the GSL-SE has 4X114mm wheels and the 12A RX-7's have 4x110mm? You can still swap out the pumpkin without changing axles.

Great thanks that is all I needed to know, I am new to these cars but I did know the bolt pattern was different on the gsl-se cars. That's why I was hoping the original axles could be used with the limited slip pumpkin. Anything else I need to watch out for or consider when swapping out the 3rd members? Great info, thanks.

Its pretty straightforward, the most common problem is the axles can sometimes be stubborn to remove, all else is easy peasy.
