I have an '85 GS (DOM 12/84) with a sunroof. Hate to add to the confusion, but just wanted to throw that out there.

TX UPDATE (good god its about time right?!)

sorry for taking so long on the update. The project was put on hold for the birth of my new son. (Drake). He is a blast and likes to watch daddy turn a few wrenches! OK. Well, I have since decided from my last posting to remove the rats nest (i really love the tutorial on it however the pictures and descriptions seem a bit lacking especially to someone who has NEVER removed any emissions on ANY car before, let alone an RX7...) SO, While i was doing that, I have my FC radiator that I will be shoehorning into the car, as well as an FC oil cooler. I will have that done tomorrow with any luck (since the company I worked for went under and now I am unemployed, I seem to have some time on my hands....) I also went ahead and removed that cursed cold start assist bottle... I also got a bit bored so I yanked the charcoal canister out and painted it black again. I have also since my last post rebuilt the clutch master cylinder ($11 from autozone and everything fit perfectly and functions WELL). I repainted it and put it back in the car. However I was cursing every little Japanese designer I could name off hand trying to bolt it back in as it is IMPOSSIBLE to do with the clutch peddle attached. Took me about an hour to tighten the top nut on the clutch master cyl. back to the firewall. I have also since dropped the gas tank (interesting task but pretty easy) and cleaned it out. Thankfully no huge amount of varnish.

OK enough of the boring!!! ON TO THE PICTURES! (please note the pictures with the critter destruction ugh, critters ate my oscillator, and both relays for the headlights but the still work hahah... )

TX more pics...

well.. more pics... i will have more and more tomorrow thru the weekend!

Oh yeah, check out my crazy idea...
Since I don't have to pass emissions and there is no noise ordinance here in Watauga...

I have hacked up an exhaust from a 2009 Scion TC and am planning to use the resonator ONLY behind my straight pipe. (no muffler just resonator)...

I am curious to know what the hell that will sound like... Hopefully mean

2" ID inlet and outlet so i should be just fine on back pressure.

TX Picture update

I have finally received my exhaust manifold gasket so I mounted my exhaust. RB Header and straight pipe behind it. Wow is this sucker gonna be loud (until I get the muffler... LOL). I have repainted my Grille semi-flat black and started primping my engine bay for the coming paint job. The car will be painted Cosmos Black (Circa 1998 BMW) with some interesting front end airbrushing. But that is my coup de gras. I will have to take that picture when the front end and paint are complete. I promise it will blow your minds what I am planning on doing!

TX Update

Ok. Rats nest removal complete. However I ran into a snag with the FC radiator so I have to take it back to my shop and fabricate a mount spacer. Anyway, the first full on test fire takes place tomorrow morning. I will take some video in case there is all out carnage... Not saying there will be but it is in fact possible. Should smoke like a fog machine on overdrive for a few minutes from all the MMO I had pumped in there. Since I still have the gas tank out because I just really hate varnish, I will be using a lovely jar and fuel hose technique to feed the motor for a few minutes. Besides, the cops here are midevil and if I left it running for more than a few minutes the SWAT team may show up and pump me full of lead....

Now, if it works GREAT! I will continue to PAINT! If not, I'll have to pull the motor and then paint Either way she's getting a new paint job.

I'm so excited I can't sleep! Wish a brotha some luck eh?

TX She fired right up!!!

Well,
I had no fuel from the pump so I had to feed her fuel thru the carb inlet good ol gas bong style! She ran well and even and had plenty of great sound. Especially since I only have the header and mid pipe on it... The neighbors gave me really really REALLY nasty looks... I only had it running for about 10 minutes but long enough to get people outside looking in the air for the crashing plane....

LOL!!! I took video but I am having trouble uploading it!!! I am just so happy I brought an engine that sat out in a field for 10 years back to life! Thank god for MMO and 3 months of patience

I am out fixing the fuel pump today to keep her running on her own! Then after that I must install all my brakes and then drive her to my shop for PAINT!!! WOOOT WOOOT WOOT PAINT!

Cosmos black here I come! Wish me luck and I promise to post the video soon!

Oh I did skip something, I had to bad coils so I just had to get 2 new coils and viola! I had spark!

TX I totally suck...

LOL. I took the video on HIGH quality HD setting and the damned thing is like 54mb and its only 35 seconds long LOL...

I will take another video with the camera today and do low quality so i can get it better haha. .. Well I dropped the fuel tank and it seems to be PEACHY, nice clean beautiful fuel dumping out of it (this is my 2nd time dropping the tank, I dropped the tank and replaced all the fuel lines except hardlines etc and fuel filter when i got the car) so I am going to snake the hardlines out then blow gas thru them all to make sure they all flow and have no varnish in them. I am pretty sure that is my problem. However if it is not then I must have sticking floats. granted the car sat for 10 years that would not surprise me. I did notice my gauges all dont work except the speedo and tach so I will address that while the tank is out as well. Replace sender etc. but I will go aftermarket since I will go aftermarket anyway later. May as well do it now and save the headache later. Not a bad build so far from a dude who has been out of work for 5 weeks But I have some time on my hands so getting my baby running seems like the right thing to do At night of course after job hunting Just so ya guys can see the cherry gas tank I have I uploaded pics of it hahaha. (this is from the first tank drop so don't blast me for the cut lines on top because I replaced them all already!)

TX Videos at last...

Put them on photobucket cuz I hate messing with it..

http://s875.photobucket.com/albums/a...0Fuel%20Issue/

First video is me pouring gas into the carb just so yall can hear it run for about 4 seconds lol... I suspect the carb is way out of tune but hey, I just wanted to hear it run ok! It has no muffler etc on it. Just RB headers and a straight pipe. The neighbors don't mind. Haha, they come out to check my progress actually... lol!

My pump is NEW and working beautifully. (Bench test before install...) Max pump is about 4psi. Sooooooo, may be a hair underpowered but if so i will just replace later with a stock one when I get the bazillion dollars to buy one.

My current suspicion is that the amount of gas I have in the tank is just too low for the pump to pick up and prime on so I will get more gas, I don't want to fill it completely up because it will be sitting for a week or two during PAINT!

I also uploaded photos of my custom fuel pump install. (Mr. Gasket but it just needs to work for a few months so quit grumbling...)

Enjoy!

TX Update

Well.
I had to take a week or so to figure out WHY i had no fuel flow!!!
Dropped the tank multiple times, replaced EVERY rubber line, removed roll over shutoff valve, manually primed lines, etc. etc. etc.
Turns out that my damned pump I bought was a bum pump from the factory and I had to return it and get another. Then poof presto! Fuel flow. SOOOO now that I have the car actually ABLE TO RUN, I will be posting video soon of the car actually running on its own and I can start to tune the idle if necessary. THEN, I will have to get the brakes sorted out and then she's off to my hobby shop for a new paint job.

Wait till you guys get a load of my paint jobs. VERY nice work if I say so myself! (wait I totally just did) I cannot wait to show ya guys. My custom door panels (see the 1st gen non-tech section) are coming along GREAT and should be mounted in the car perhaps wednesday maybe thursday!

For you DFW guys I will bring the finished product out to the RX7 meet (If it occurs on the 1st saturday, weekday may be a problem...) for yall to drool and paw at them for a bit.

Check for videos here in a few hours.. Now it's off to bed.

TX updates

I have been hard at work on the door panels I am making. They are complete but the darned handle I made just really didnt give me goosebumps, so I scrapped it and started over

Perfection is what I am after, and will settle for nothing less. So I decided to upload a few pictures of that process and tell you whats been going on.

I am forced to rebuild my Nikki as I just cannot get it to function correctly. So I have a one off manifold that has my new found Weber DCOE 44 mounted to it...
Currently awaiting rebuild of my 1988 S4 N/A 13b to put that DCOE on. When that Is complete, I will do my engine swap I got about 5 projects going on at once

When the motor comes out for the swap, the paint will fly!!! So for now, please digest some door panel splash molding
I tried to do this with products average joe can get his / her hands on. Now obviously at my shop I do things much different but I will make a write up for splash molding to follow the pictures to help people along.

Enjoy

TX Update

For all who were interested, I finnaly have updates. I am very sorry it took so long. Downloading pics now so when they are done I will post photos as well.

Here is my progress:
I got the car running and it had that accursed dowel pin O-Ring leak, rebuilt the Nikki, stripped the Nikki, and the fuel lines. Then, I pulled the engine and gave it to Duffman LOL.

Stripped the car down to get ready for paint, no bumpers, no interior, no trim. 2003 BMW Cosmos Black paint going on the car sometime next weekend.

Acquired full FC suspension (yes I know all of you are going to tell me how cursed the FC Rear suspension is blah blah blah...) It's going under there for now because I can't deal with all the bullshit involved with 4x110 hubs. I plan on updating the entire suspension to FD later on down the road when I put a larger engine in it. (NO I do NOT plan on some idiot V8 conversion, saving up to rebuild a 20B that I have been sitting on for a few years...)

Pics of the lovely FC front subframe swap will be coming this week as my progress continues, and fabbing up the rear FC subframe into place as well, this should leave me with a need for a driveshaft. HOWEVER, I think (usually where it all goes wrong...) If i use S4 N/A trans with FB tailshaft, I can get the FB or FC driveshaft to fit. I may have to scooch the engine forward an inch PERHAPS... Either way I promise to take lots of photos and such.

Also got Vert wheels to go under her. Planning on rebuilding the calipers, and entire brake system, hubs, and replace all bushings before mounting subframe. So, depending on when my bushings get here, that's when the subframe project will start.

I hope to have this all done by mid september. Wish a brotha luck!

TX Pics and reply

I don't want to deal with ANY 4 lug wheels. 5 Lug wheels are much easier to source and with a greater selection.

Here's some pics from last night after the offloading of stuff
