TX OK, here she is home at last....

Everyone,
Here is my new baby. Please let me know what ya guys think! (Hey for $50.00 I think i got a friggin steal, plus services records going all the way back to '85).
1984 Rx7, however I am not completely sure what the trim level is. So far it has been suggested that it may be a "GS - Sport" ?? Please take a look and someone let me know what trim level you think, I am going to decode the VIN tonight and try to get some answers there.

Well, I don't think i got a bad deal, so lets have a gander!

From the looks of the trim level/options, I'd say your the proud owner of an 84 GS. I say that because I have one with all the same colors/options, but in red.
Congrats!

Since it does not have a sunroof, I thought it was a "S" model.

+1 I've always been under the impression that if it's got drums and no sunroof it's a S. Friend of mine has a GS and it has the sunroof.

Nice catch, you're probably right, I didn't notice there wasn't a sunroof.

TX The Story:

Well, I promised you guys the story about this car so... here it is!

I found this car on craigslist at around 9am. By 9:20am it was paid for. Sight unseen, but hey, $50.00 for a 1st gen rx7?! I mean, who wouldn't jump all over that?!! So, after a few misses with the guy to get the paperwork and keys. So, after I managed to meet up with the guy I got the keys, title, and paperwork. Then I went out to take a look. Well, there it was, sitting in the dirt, no wheels, in the weeds, and looking really sad. Well, after a 10 minute walk around. So, I finnaly got all that taken into consideration and started posting (look back in the wheels for sale section and 1st gen parts classifieds...) for ANYONE who had wheels I could use. After a few days of some serious bang my face on the keyboard times, Duffman finnaly came to my rescue! So, we hatched a plan to meet up, except on the day of the meet, I realized WE DIDNT HAVE LUG BOLTS!!! So, I got the F-250 and trailer ready, he drove down from Quinlan to Southlake where I work. So we took 2 bolts off each of his wheels just so we could mount the wheels. We went back to my house, scooped up another buddy of mine and set out for Arlington. We got to the lot around 9pm, and man it was kinda dark!
We managed to get up to the car, and have a quick look around. We started jacking up the car and while it was being lifted I started to free up the frozen rotors on the front. We finnaly got the rotors free. Mounted the front tires, and moved on to the back. This is where we ran into some serious trouble (but we didnt yet know it!). Mounted the tires on the rear wheels, got the E-brake to drop, and started to try and push the car. Needless to say we felt a bit defeated and a little sheepish. We did however managed to SLIDE the car thru the dirt about 3 inches! We decided the cars rear brakes were locked up. So up the car went again. We managed to get the drum off the driver side, and with only a screwdriver and a tire iron, we removed the pads.Put that wheel back on, and moved to the other wheel. This is where we had some more bad luck. We stripped the screw holding the drum on! So we proceeded to beat the everloving CRAP out of it with a rubber mallet to try and knock the rust and such off. It finnaly started to spin freely! We then pushed it a bit and got it rolling. Duff jumped in the car and was our wheelman! We found out the brakes were still functional and thank god because we had to roll this sucker down a hill to the trailer! (I will post here in a bit detailing our fiasco getting the RX7 up on a lawnmowing trailer!!! HAAHAH - gotta eat or the woman's gonna kill me... brb )

yeah for $50 i'd have been all over that too

i think its an "S" manual mirrors...

it should also not have a map light in the rear view mirror, or a cargo light

black on grey is also a good color combo!

TX Update

SOOOO.... after doing a compression test on the yard find... I decided it was time to have a test fire.. (and i do mean... FIRE...) SO, I get a hand pump, splice into the fuel line to the carb, spray a hit of ether down in the chamber, fill the bowl a bit, and turn the key...

Took me a bout a minute to get the knack of how fast i had to pump to build enough fuel pressure to actually get her to fire over. Since the exhaust is cut off just after the cat (thanks to the ******** who vandalized the car, they made off with the wheels but tried to hacksaw the exhaust off and just managed to cut it into two peices... ugh, idiots...) i got nice happy flames licking upon the concrete that is my garage floor... HOWEVER, the SMOKE coming from under the car was enough to worry me so I let the car die. To my suprise, my assistant seemed to have left a TOWEL under the car and it was on FIRE. So I put it out with my handy dandy fire extinguisher.

Since then, I have taken it upon myself to go ahead and get the fuel system working CORRECTLY. Since the gas that was left in the car turned to varnish, I had to clean the hard lines and replace rubber lines. So i replaced the filter as well. Since then, the gas tank was dropped, cleaned, and re-installed. SO, here shortly when I get all the vac lines replaced (i have TONS left over from the 13b rebuild for the 88 vert) because nobody likes chasing vac leaks.

I will put some pics up tomorrow and update some more

Thanks for being interested! (FPR, new fuel pump, and A/F meter will come shortly)

Well, its ok to ask questions about the topic in a thread no thread jacking have you done ! As far as I have been told, the SPORT (S) had no sunroof, and the GS had a sunroof. So you are correct.

Another note, LOOK FOR PICS TONIGHT

I had to pull mine out of the weeds as well, but it cost me $300. Then I found out I had to replace the engine, someone let it freeze and the rear rotor filled with water, and the rest you can guess!

to further add to the details, the sunroof was an option on all GS based 7's until 85 when it was only available on the GSL and GSL-SE.

Subscibed! I love these '1st gen saved from the brink' stories. How'd it run after you replaced the fuel lines?

I'd give my left nut not to have a sunroof in my 7, unfortunately we don't get a lotta choice over here.

Good find by the way I'm subscribed.
